Google has entered a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with EnBW for electricity from 100 MW of capacity at the 960 MW He Dreiht offshore wind farm in Germany.
The He Dreiht wind farm, located approximately 85 kilometers northwest of Borkum, Germany, is nearing full operation. Turbine installation began in April last year, and first power was produced in November 2025. By January 2026, half of the 64 Vestas 15 MW turbines were installed, with completion and commissioning expected by summer 2026.
Most electricity from He Dreiht is secured through long-term PPAs. EnBW is in talks with additional potential buyers for remaining volumes. Prior to Google, EnBW signed PPAs with DHL Group for 20 MW; Evonik for 150 MW, divided into 100 MW and 50 MW; Fraport AG for 85 MW; Bosch for 50 MW; Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH for 50 MW; Deutsche Bahn for 20 MW; and Deutsche Telekom’s PASM for 100 MW.
“This agreement with Google is a strong signal for energy market transformation. We proudly support one of the world’s leading technology firms on its sustainability journey. By providing a customized PPA solution, EnBW contributes to industry and digital economy decarbonization,” said Peter Heydecker, EnBW Board Member for Sustainable Generation Infrastructure.
Google aims for 24/7 carbon-free energy by 2030, ensuring all energy consumption is matched hourly with carbon-free energy on the same grid. This is essential for Google’s operations, which include global data centers supporting AI and digital services, requiring reliable and clean electricity, EnBW emphasized.
“AI infrastructure demands direct investment in enabling energy systems,” stated Adam Elman, Director of Sustainability EMEA at Google. “By contracting new wind power from EnBW, we increase clean energy in Germany, powering our operations and accelerating a sustainable transition.”
Google has a history of offshore wind PPAs. Last year, it signed a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA) with Shell for the 108 MW NordzeeWind project, extending the Netherlands’ first offshore wind farm. In 2025, Google signed with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) for the 495 MW Fengmiao 1 wind farm, Google’s first offshore wind PPA in Taiwan. In 2024, Google and CIP signed a PPA for 250 MW at the Zeevonk project in the Netherlands.
Google also signed CPPAs for 100 MW at Moray West in Scotland, 50 MW at the Borkum Riffgrund 3 in Germany, and 100 MW at the Norther wind farm in Belgium.
