RBW Cars: A Classic Reimagined for the Modern Era
With a vision to revive a classic British automotive icon, RBW Cars has embarked on a journey that combines nostalgia with cutting-edge electric vehicle technology. Founded by Peter Swain in 2017, the company offers a refreshing take on the electrified restomod path by crafting an entirely new vehicle rather than retrofitting existing classics, unlike its peers Lunaz and Electrogenic.

The RBW Roadster and the forthcoming GT model exude a strong resemblance to the MGB, a standout of the 60s and 70s sports car era. Manufactured by MG between 1963 and 1980, the MGB was a global success with over half a million units sold, supported by a vibrant community of enthusiasts and parts suppliers.
Leveraging the expertise of British Motor Heritage, which produces new bodyshells for classic models, RBW Cars integrates these with a newly developed EV platform. This is the brainchild of Technical Director Ian Mills, who brings over two decades of EV experience to the table, tasked with creating a contemporary version of the MGB.

RBW’s innovative venture involves a modular platform that could potentially accommodate various car models in the future. The Roadster and GT models maintain the aesthetic charm of the original MGB while incorporating modern electric powertrains, promising enhanced performance and efficiency.
RBW is actively expanding its presence with production facilities in Lichfield, UK, and a new factory underway in Virginia, USA. The company is also establishing dedicated dealerships in Bermuda, Hong Kong, and on the horizon, Japan, which were historically significant markets for the classic MG.

According to Ian Mills, the MGB has a distinct style and spirit, which is preserved in RBW’s modern interpretations. The company owns the rights to the body shape, ensuring the continued existence of this classic silhouette. The new designs feature significant upgrades, including a 50kWh battery with fast-charge capability, extending the Roadster’s range from 150 to 200 miles.
With meticulous attention to detail, each RBW vehicle is crafted with precision, offering customers extensive customization options. Whether it’s the interior trim or the suspension system, everything is tailored to create a unique driving experience. Mills describes the RBW cars as “a Fabergé egg of a vehicle,” designed to be cherished and passed down through generations.
As RBW Cars gears up to join the ranks of modern electric vehicles, it continues to honor the legacy of the MGB while paving the way for a new era of automotive innovation. The company’s expansion into the American market and plans for international dealerships signal a promising future for this timeless design.
