Principle Power has secured the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) support contract for the 30 MW Éoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion (EFGL) project in the French Mediterranean. This project is managed by Ocean Winds (OW) in partnership with la Banque des Territoires.
The agreement encompasses the three WindFloat® foundations, hosting three Vestas V164-10 MW turbines, the most powerful turbines on floating foundations to date.
The contract involves integrated O&M services for the floating foundations, including inspection, maintenance, repair (IMR), remote monitoring, data analytics, and engineering support to the project owner. Principle Power will use its Asset Hub application for remote, real-time monitoring and automated insights to enhance operational decision-making.
Operations will be managed at the O&M base in Port-La Nouvelle, Occitanie, Southern France. Ocean Winds employs six local workers for platform and ancillary equipment maintenance, collaborating with Vestas for turbines inspection and maintenance. Principle Power has expanded its O&M team locally, enhancing its presence in France, which accounts for nearly 30% of its global workforce.
“This contract with Principle Power is a strategic asset for EFGL and strengthens the long-standing relationship between Ocean Winds and Principle Power, which began over 15 years ago, with 6 years of operating expertise built on Ocean Winds’ first floating windfarm, the 25 MW WindFloat Atlantic,” said Jeremy de Barbarin, Project Director of EFGL – Ocean Winds.
The EFGL contract marks the latest deployment of WindFloat® technology in France and promotes the transition of floating wind toward commercial scale in international markets, including the United Kingdom and South Korea.
Principle Power has developed its expertise across three floating wind projects: the 2 MW WindFloat 1, the 25 MW WindFloat Atlantic, and the 50 MW Kincardine Offshore Wind Farm. With the 30 MW EFGL project, Ocean Winds’ second operating floating wind farm, Principle Power holds 105 MW of capacity using WindFloat® foundations, demonstrating reliable performance in harsh Atlantic and North Sea conditions.
