All wind turbines have been installed at EnBW’s 960 MW He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the German North Sea, completing the turbine installation phase.
The first of the 64 Vestas V236-15.0 MW wind turbines was installed by Cadeler’s vessel Wind Orca in April 2025. Commissioning began in November, when He Dreiht fed initial power into the German grid.
Technical and electrical commissioning is ongoing, with full operation expected by late summer, according to EnBW. Once operational, the 960 MW offshore wind farm, located 85 kilometers northwest of Borkum, will generate electricity for about 1.1 million households. Approximately EUR 2.4 billion is being invested in the project, which is being developed without state funding.
He Dreiht faced a setback with damage to a rotor blade, retrieved by the German Federal Police. EnBW announced that Vestas is investigating the damage that occurred in late July.
Most of He Dreiht’s electricity output is secured through long-term power purchase agreements with companies such as DHL Group for 20 MW, Google for 100 MW, Evonik for 150 MW, and 100 MW. Other agreements include Fraport AG for 85 MW, Bosch for 50 MW, and Deutsche Bahn for 20 MW.
EnBW mentioned it is in talks with additional buyers for the remaining volumes as of 12 August. The project is owned by EnBW and a consortium, including Allianz Global Investors, AIP Management, and Norges Bank Investment Management, with a 49.9% stake held by the consortium.
