VinFast’s Vietnam Sales Surge as EVs Enter a Tipping Point

VinFast is rapidly climbing the ranks in Vietnam’s electric vehicle market with impressive delivery numbers, signaling a strong shift towards electrification in the region. As the company continues to roll out new models, its influence on Vietnam’s transportation landscape becomes increasingly significant.

In July, VinFast delivered 21,781 electric vehicles, boosting its total sales for the first seven months of 2026 to an impressive 137,697 units. This places the company well ahead of its previous year’s record, with the July figures alone marking a 21.3% increase from June’s 17,955 vehicles. By comparison, the total sales for VinFast in Vietnam during 2025 were 175,099 vehicles, meaning the current year’s figures already represent 79% of last year’s total.

To put VinFast’s performance in perspective, the overall automobile market in Vietnam, including other manufacturers like those in the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association and Hyundai Thanh Cong, sold 604,134 vehicles in 2025, as reported by VnExpress. VinFast’s share was about 29% of this combined market, despite the absence of data from several luxury and imported-vehicle manufacturers.

Among VinFast’s models, the Limo Green has emerged as a top seller with 32,331 units delivered through July, reflecting its growing role in commercial transportation. In July alone, it accounted for 4,404 deliveries. The VF 3 followed closely, leading the company in July with 5,564 units and reaching a year-to-date total of 29,345 vehicles.

The VF 5, along with its Herio Green commercial variant, contributed 4,407 deliveries in July, accumulating 24,574 over the seven months. These figures highlight a trend in Vietnam’s EV market, where smaller passenger vehicles and commercial-use models are gaining traction.

Positioned at the lower end of the market, the Minio Green saw 2,429 deliveries in July after a price reduction to 188 million Vietnamese dong (about $7,100). This compact four-seat electric car is marketed as an urban alternative to motorcycles, making it an appealing option for short city commutes.

Looking ahead, VinFast is set to expand its lineup with the VF 2, which already has 28,742 reservations since the start of July and is slated for delivery in September. The VF 6 and VF MPV 7 also performed steadily in July, with 1,993 and 1,674 deliveries respectively, reaching totals of 16,038 and 10,851 for the year so far.

VinFast’s Green-branded vehicles are particularly relevant for Vietnam’s transportation sector, especially in commercial applications such as taxis and ride-hailing services. The success of models like the Limo Green indicates a growing demand from fleet operators, suggesting that commercial entities are becoming significant contributors to the EV market.

In 2025, VinFast delivered 175,099 out of its global total of 196,919 vehicles in Vietnam, underscoring the country’s importance to the company’s overall sales strategy. Despite the company’s ambitions for international expansion, it currently relies heavily on its home market for sales.

As VinFast continues to introduce new models like the new-generation VF 8, set for an August release, and the VF 2, the company is poised for another significant increase in domestic sales. This momentum not only highlights VinFast’s growing influence but also signals a broader transition in Vietnam’s automotive market towards more accessible and practical electric vehicles.
