Qcells has once again proven its leadership in the U.S. solar industry with the development of the Atlas V and Atlas VI projects, located in La Paz County, Arizona. Together, these projects boast a combined capacity of 372 MWdc and form a significant part of the larger Atlas Energy Park, which ranks among the largest solar and energy storage initiatives in the nation.

These projects underscore Qcells’ prowess in providing comprehensive energy solutions that cover every stage of the project lifecycle. Initially developed by Qcells, the projects were later sold but are being built using Qcells’ own EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) services. The company is also responsible for the long-term management of these assets, ensuring their sustained performance and the owner’s internal rate of return (IRR). This comprehensive approach maximizes efficiency, quality control, and the long-term viability of utility-scale solar assets.

The Atlas projects utilize high-performance solar modules manufactured by Qcells in Georgia. Additionally, the projects employ Ohio-made FLEXRACK solar racking and energy storage products from Michigan’s LG Energy Solutions, ensuring both tax-credit benefits and a reliable supply chain. Hanwha Renewables, a sister company of Qcells, has recently facilitated the sale of these projects to Chrysalis Renewables, backed by Morrison.

These projects are secured under long-term power purchase agreements with Southern California Edison, ensuring a stable market for the generated electricity.

The Atlas Energy Park is expected to significantly boost grid reliability across the Southwestern United States and California. By 2028, it will deliver a staggering 2.8 GW of solar generation capacity and 5.7 GWh of energy storage capacity through its solar power plants and storage facilities.

Beyond enhancing the grid, the Atlas Energy Park serves as an economic driver for La Paz County and Arizona. The project has created thousands of construction jobs and promises to provide additional permanent employment opportunities. The upgrade in energy infrastructure not only powers a rural region but also spurs further economic development.
