NovaSpark Energy’s Expansion to Create Hundreds of Jobs in Louisiana

NovaSpark Energy, a leader in sustainable energy technology, is set to significantly boost its operations in Louisiana by expanding its workforce in West Monroe and investing $30 million in a new facility in Houma. This ambitious project is poised to meet the rising national demand for innovative energy solutions, particularly through the production of atmospheric hydrogen generators for defense and energy applications.

Collectively, NovaSpark’s expansion is projected to generate 300 direct jobs and sustain three current positions, with an average salary of $76,000, surpassing the Louisiana state average by 25%. According to Louisiana Economic Development (LED), the initiative is expected to create an additional 318 indirect jobs, totaling 618 potential new employment opportunities in the Bayou and Northeast Regions.

“Louisiana’s energy leadership has always been defined by our ability to deliver at scale, and today that strength is being expanded through innovation,” LED Secretary Susan B. Bourgeois said. “NovaSpark’s investment brings advanced manufacturing, defense applications and emerging energy technology together in a way that builds on our existing foundation while creating new opportunities across the state.”

Based in West Monroe, NovaSpark is enhancing its contribution to the defense sector with its technology that facilitates on-site, emission-free hydrogen production. This advancement addresses critical challenges related to fuel logistics and energy stability.

“Louisiana offers a unique combination of energy leadership, industrial infrastructure and a highly skilled workforce that makes it an ideal location for NovaSpark’s next phase of growth,” said NovaSpark CEO Rick Harlow. “We’ve been incredibly impressed by the depth of talent across the region, as well as the strong support from local communities, the State of Louisiana and its colleges and universities, all of which are aligned in advancing next-generation energy solutions.”

The expansion in Houma is not just about increasing production but also about ensuring that the U.S. can provide resilient, on-site energy for essential infrastructure and national defense.

NovaSpark’s growth trajectory, supported by partnerships with entities like Lockheed Martin and the Department of War, underscores its capability to scale its atmospheric hydrogen technology beyond military applications to commercial use. This expansion is further bolstered by Louisiana-based Boot64 Ventures, a Louisiana Opportunity Capital lender, alongside LED’s FUEL award, which aims to bridge innovation, capital, and industry.

Project Details by Location

In West Monroe, the expansion will enhance the facility’s role in supporting defense and military-focused production. This initiative is set to create 60 new direct jobs and maintain three existing ones, with an anticipated 64 additional indirect jobs in the Northeast Region.

“The expansion of NovaSpark Energy’s facility in West Monroe strengthens advanced manufacturing in Ouachita Parish while creating high-quality job opportunities for our residents,” Ouachita Parish Police Jury President Shane Smiley commented. “As part of a broader investment in Louisiana, it underscores renewed economic momentum and reinforces that parishes like Ouachita are competing and winning on a national stage.”

Construction for this expansion began in April 2026, with operations slated to start in 2027.

In Houma, the new facility will facilitate high-volume production of atmospheric hydrogen generators for critical infrastructure applications. This $30 million investment is expected to create 240 direct jobs, with an additional 254 indirect jobs projected in the Bayou Region.

“Terrebonne Parish has the workforce, infrastructure, and industrial foundation to support companies that are ready to scale, and NovaSpark Energy’s decision to locate this facility in Houma speaks directly to those strengths,” stated Terrebonne Economic Development Authority CEO Cohen Guidry. “TEDA is proud to welcome this investment and the 240 new direct jobs it will bring.”

The process of site selection, permitting, and design is expected to commence in mid-2026, followed by construction.

The state of Louisiana secured this project by offering NovaSpark a competitive incentives package, including workforce development solutions through LED FastStart® and participation in the High Impact Jobs and Industrial Tax Exemption programs.
