Exploring the world of electric vehicles, I embarked on a journey with a 2026 Cadillac Escalade IQ. This experience was more than just a test drive; it was a deep dive into assessing whether this luxury SUV could serve as both a family vehicle and a reliable companion for long road trips. My route took me on an extensive drive from Michigan to Florida, putting the Escalade IQ through its paces.

Introducing the Cadillac Escalade IQ

Back in 2022, GM’s luxury division announced the all-electric Escalade IQ, a modern take on the classic SUV. Witnessing its unveiling in New York in 2023 was an impressive moment, as GM’s chief engineer shared insights into the design. Fast forward to its 2025 sales launch, and the Escalade IQ has grown to be a much-anticipated option for EV enthusiasts.

My first live encounter after the official unveiling was at Disney World, where its towering presence struck me as ideal for a family EV, especially for road trips. My significant other and I decided to drive to Disney World, accompanied by our Great Pyrenees, Stella, providing the perfect opportunity for an in-depth review.

Initial Impressions

The 2026 Escalade IQ offers impressive specs that cater to both performance and luxury. Here’s a snapshot of what this SUV brings to the table:

  • Powertrain: Dual Motor AWD
  • Battery Capacity: 205 kWh
  • Estimated Range: 465 miles
  • Power: 750 horsepower
  • Torque: 785 lb-ft
  • Acceleration: 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds
  • Architecture: 800V platform
  • Charging Plug: J1772 (NACS adapter available)
  • Peak Charge Rate: 350 kW
  • Dimensions: Length: 224.3″, Width: 94.1″ (with mirrors), Height: 76.1 “
  • Seating: 3 rows, 7 passengers
  • Cargo Capacity: Total of 224 cubic feet

Upon delivery, exploring the Escalade IQ revealed a vehicle that combines the luxury and comfort Cadillac is renowned for. The automatic doors, controlled via the center display, were a unique feature, though perhaps more suited for livery use.

The interior left no stone unturned in terms of amenities, with individual monitors for second-row passengers and a host of connectivity options, including USB-C, HDMI ports, and a 110V plug. The eTrunk, an elongated frunk, added to the vehicle’s utility.

Driving Experience

Driving the 2026 Escalade IQ was an enjoyable experience. Its imposing height and robust build provided a sense of safety on the road. Engaging GM’s SuperCruise proved beneficial for long stretches, allowing for much-needed breaks.

The vehicle’s interior features a comprehensive dashboard display, offering customization options for both driver and passenger. However, navigating the controls proved to be a challenge at times, necessitating frequent searches for guidance.

Throughout our journey, the Escalade IQ handled adverse weather conditions with ease, thanks to its Snow Mode and weighty battery. The vehicle’s head-up display and night vision feature enhanced the driving experience, especially in low-light conditions.

Charging Stops

The road trip spanned over 2,650 miles, with charging stops adding significant time to our journey. In total, we made 15 charging stops, extending our travel by 7 hours. The costs were notably higher than a traditional combustion vehicle trip, totaling $750.

While Mercedes-Benz chargers provided a dependable option, Tesla’s network was less accommodating, often crowded and slower than expected. Despite these challenges, the Cadillac Escalade IQ’s range and performance remained impressive, reaffirming its potential as a road-trip-ready EV.
