Over a two-year period, Wescott Industrial Services, specialists in integrated industrial solutions like access and protective coatings, completed a major coating repair campaign on all 102 Main Access Platform (MAP) cranes at the East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm.
This campaign, conducted for ScottishPower Renewables, ensured safe and efficient operations while adhering to high quality standards.
East Anglia ONE, located 43 kilometres off the Suffolk coast, can generate up to 714 MW of clean energy, powering approximately 700,000 homes.
Technical Achievements
The project introduced a multi-coat repair system across 102 cranes, allowing application beyond traditional humidity and dew point limits. This innovation boosted productivity, optimizing output during available offshore weather windows.
Rope access techniques were employed for crane boom areas, applying a single-coat repair system, eliminating the need for scaffolding and lifting equipment, thereby reducing campaign risks and enhancing efficiency.
Operations and Safety
Spanning two years, the campaign had an average of 20 personnel deployed daily at the wind farm. Detailed coordination across teams integrated SIMOPS to streamline workflows while maintaining high standards in blasting and painting operations.
Hybrid Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) ensured safe and efficient transport of personnel and equipment. A strong emphasis on safety and environmental protection resulted in zero Lost Time Incidents (LTIs) over 55,867 offshore working hours.
Delivered alongside ScottishPower Renewables, the campaign aligned with their commitment to operational excellence and safety culture. This collaboration ensured all activities supported SPR’s values and long-term asset management strategy.
Max Wall, Senior Project Manager at ScottishPower Renewables, commented: “Wescott delivered this comprehensive campaign to a high standard, with excellent safety records throughout. The collaboration, flexibility, and proactive approach in implementing improvements were commendable. We are proud of the successful completion and the milestone it represents.”
