Wärtsilä Secures Key Role in Powering Lombok’s Energy Future

The Indonesian island of Lombok, renowned for its tourist appeal, is set to benefit from a new operation and maintenance agreement aimed at ensuring a steady electricity supply. Technology firm Wärtsilä has collaborated with PT PLN Nusantara Power Services to enhance the island’s power plant capabilities, which are crucial for keeping the lights on across Lombok.

The agreement, which spans 30 months, involves a 138 MW power facility that utilizes 13 Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel engines alongside a steam turbine generator. Notably, this deal was recorded as an order intake for Wärtsilä in the third quarter of 2025.

Mr. Jakfar Sadiq, President Director of PT PLN Nusantara Power Services, highlighted the plant’s significance, stating, “This plant is the first combined cycle gas engine power plant in Indonesia. About 60 percent of Lombok’s island grid is supplied by this plant, which indicates the importance of having it operating as efficiently and reliably as possible.”

The bespoke Wärtsilä shared O&M solutions are designed to align with the plant’s operational needs. This partnership aims to boost the plant’s productivity while also advancing the skills of local staff.

Erwin Vanderkerff, Director of Regional Operations Australasia at Wärtsilä Energy, remarked, “With this agreement, we ensure peace of mind for the customer. By Wärtsilä operating and maintaining the plant with optimal efficiency and reliability, the PT PLN Nusantara Power Services can focus on delivering the best possible customer service.”

The collaboration is rooted in a longstanding relationship, with PT PLN Nusantara Power Service having previously installed several facilities equipped with Wärtsilä technology.
