PVH USA Expands Manufacturing to Boost Solar Project Efficiency

In a strategic move to enhance its capacity for solar project support, PVH USA is expanding its Houston facility by adding 34,200 square feet of manufacturing space. This expansion will increase the facility’s overall capacity by 42 percent, allowing for a significant 35-percent boost in the production of pre-assembled components. This development is set to facilitate a more efficient solar installation process, crucial to the company’s US manufacturing strategy.

PVH USA’s investment aims to streamline the solar installation process by shifting more assembly tasks from project sites to the factory. This approach promises to reduce field complexity and enhance predictability during installations, while effectively addressing the challenges posed by a constrained construction labor market.

Alfonso Queipo, CEO of PVH USA, emphasized the company’s commitment to meeting customer demands: “We are investing in additional domestic manufacturing capacity because our customers are asking us to do more. But this is not simply about manufacturing more products. It is about finding ways to make solar installation more efficient. Pre-assembly has become an important part of that strategy because it allows us to move complexity out of the field and into an environment where we have greater control over quality, productivity, and consistency.”

Since 2023, PVH USA has refined its pre-assembly approach, which involves performing a substantial portion of assembly work in Houston before the equipment leaves the factory. This method reduces the number of components that need to be managed on-site by up to 70 percent, accelerates installation rates by up to 44 percent, and decreases the demand for field labor, thereby optimizing the overall installation process.

The expansion will enable PVH USA to extend this approach to a larger number of projects and clients, catering to the growing demand for solar tracking systems. By managing the assembly of components in a controlled environment, PVH USA enhances field execution predictability while also providing agility for field crews, especially under challenging weather conditions.

Rodolfo Bitar, Vice President of Business Development for PVH USA, highlighted the changing dynamics in the solar industry: “Solar EPCs face mounting pressure regarding labor availability, strict timelines, and total project costs. Traditionally, manufacturers pushed the assembly burden onto the jobsite. We ask a different question: what work can be done more efficiently before the equipment ever leaves the factory?”

The Houston facility’s expansion is part of PVH USA’s broader strategy to integrate manufacturing and installation processes, addressing typical field challenges like labor constraints, scheduling, and quality consistency. By localizing more production in Texas, the company also aims to reduce carbon emissions linked to international shipping, aligning with PVH’s global sustainability goals.

This shift towards factory-based assembly minimizes the need for heavy machinery and reduces material waste at project sites, supporting PVH’s commitment to circular economy principles. With steel making up over 98 percent of a PVH solar tracker’s weight, these systems are highly recyclable, contributing to sustainable practices.
