In a groundbreaking achievement, PSE&G’s energy efficiency initiatives have led to substantial savings for its customers, according to their recent Clean Energy Future-Energy Efficiency report. Over the past five years, 480,000 participants in these programs have collectively saved more than $900 million on their utility bills.
The programs offer a variety of energy-saving solutions, such as energy assessments, rebates on appliances and HVAC systems, lighting solutions, equipment upgrades, and products from the PSE&G Marketplace.
Key Highlights from the CEF-EE Report
- 105,000+ home energy assessments conducted
- Nearly 350,000 smart thermostats sold through the PSE&G Marketplace
- About 150,000 rebates claimed for energy-efficient appliance upgrades
- Approximately $940 million in rebates provided for energy-saving upgrades and products
- 30,000+ old appliances recycled via the PSE&G recycling program
Business customers across New Jersey are also benefiting from PSE&G’s energy efficiency programs. These initiatives offer solutions that help businesses of all sizes improve their energy use and manage utility expenses, while providing incentives for energy efficiency upgrades. This approach allows businesses to reinvest savings into other areas.
To date, around 20,000 businesses have completed over 32,000 projects aimed at enhancing energy efficiency. Among these are 2,000 smaller businesses that participated in the Direct Install Program, focusing on lighting and commercial HVAC projects eligible for on-bill repayment. These efforts have resulted in nearly $25 million in utility bill savings for the small businesses involved.
St. Joseph’s Health is an example of an organization undertaking energy efficiency projects in its Paterson and Wayne facilities. Supported by PSE&G incentives, these projects aim to reduce energy usage and manage operational costs. Scott Reilly, Director of Maintenance and Engineering at St. Joseph’s Health, remarked, “Every dollar we’re not spending on energy is a dollar we can put back into patient care.”
Residential and business customers participating in these programs have achieved around 3.1 million megawatt-hours of electric savings annually, which is enough to power approximately 453,000 homes. They have also saved about 80 million therms of natural gas per year.
These collective efforts are instrumental in avoiding around 2.3 million tons of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to removing over 500,000 gasoline-powered vehicles from the roads for a year, as per the CEF-EE report.
Lauren Thomas, Vice President of Clean Energy Solutions at PSE&G, stated, “Energy efficiency is one of the tools we use to help customers reduce energy use and manage their utility costs. Maintaining affordability and enhancing the customer experience remain central to this work. The investments we make through these programs largely flow back into New Jersey, supporting local businesses, contractors and trade allies while delivering value for customers.”
Beyond customer and business benefits, energy efficiency investments are bolstering workforce development throughout New Jersey. Through PSE&G’s Clean Energy Jobs Program, over 7,300 workers have been placed into clean energy careers.
