Osbit, part of Venterra Group, has inaugurated a new offshore wind assembly and service facility at the Port of Blyth in the UK.

The new 3,350-square-metre facility has generated 33 new jobs for the region.

Situated at the Port’s Wimbourne Quay, the facility offers build and test space four times larger than Osbit’s previous location, access to multiple heavy lift quays, and the capacity to accommodate more skilled workers in its office space.

The project involved converting one of the port’s warehouses at Bates Clean Energy Terminal into an engineering workshop for Osbit. This conversion added new offices and overhead cranes for improved operations.

“We’re pleased to support Osbit’s growth with an investment in a larger, purpose-built facility at our Bates Clean Energy Terminal. This relocation boosts operational capacity and strengthens our partnership with Osbit,” said Alasdair Kerr, Commercial Director at Port of Blyth.

The expansion, which doubled permanent positions at the facility, was facilitated by a grant from the Business Growth Fund, supported by the North East Combined Authority, Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council, and Sunderland City Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

Osbit, part of Venterra Group, a global provider of offshore wind services, aims to enhance collaboration across Venterra’s portfolio with the new facility, featuring meeting rooms and client hosting spaces.

Now operational, the facility has already delivered first-of-a-kind wind farm installation tools, a floating offshore wind cable testing rig, and multiple offshore access gangways, according to Osbit.

“Opening this new facility is a major milestone for Osbit. We can now undertake several projects simultaneously and are well-positioned to meet industry demands. The adjoining space provides a satellite office for our expanding team,” said Steve Binney, Osbit Director overseeing the site’s development.

The company recently concluded a regional metocean characterisation study for the South Coast Designated Maritime Area Plan, commissioned by Ireland’s Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications.
