Fastned to Establish France’s First All-Electric Service Area in Brittany
Fastned, a prominent player in the European electric vehicle charging industry, has secured a milestone project in France. After a successful tender by the Direction interdépartementale des routes Ouest (DIR Ouest), Fastned is set to develop the country’s first all-electric service area on national roads, located in St Yvi, Brittany.
The planned service area, expected to be operational by 2026, will feature six ultra-fast chargers, one of which will cater to electric trucks. These charging points, each with a capacity of 400 kW, will be situated along Route National 165, a crucial segment of the E60 network that sees over 28,000 vehicles daily.
The St Yvi service area will not only provide charging facilities but also offer a range of amenities including a shop, restrooms, and a landscaped garden. This aligns with Fastned’s vision of creating service areas designed for people, powered entirely by clean energy.
France joins Belgium as the second nation to embrace Fastned’s innovative concept of zero-emissions service areas. The company’s flagship stations in Gentbrugge, Belgium, showcased this vision in September 2025. The St Yvi initiative reflects Fastned’s commitment to expanding its network of over 380 charging stations across Europe, with more than 50 already established in France.
Fastned’s Vision for Sustainable Mobility
Fastned’s mission is to accelerate the shift to electric mobility, offering a reliable and convenient charging experience. Their St Yvi location will provide travelers the opportunity to enjoy refreshments and relax while their vehicles charge on 100% renewable energy. This project further cements Fastned’s role as a leader in electric service infrastructure in Europe.
Michiel Langezaal, Co-Founder and CEO of Fastned, expressed his pride in the project’s selection, stating, “I am extremely proud that Fastned has been chosen to build France’s first all-electric service area at St Yvi. France now becomes the second country to embark on the journey of zero-emissions service areas – a logical step in light of the phase out of the internal combustion engine and fossil fuels, and therefore petrol stations. Fastned has been powering electric drivers across France since 2021, accelerating the pace of transition with over 50 locations already open to French drivers. This tender win shows our ambition to bring the service area of the future to France, and further all over Europe, and to give every driver the best charging experience possible with 100% renewable energy.”
