Ocean Winds, a joint venture between EDP Renewables and ENGIE, has contracted DEME for installation tasks at the BC-Wind offshore wind farm in Poland. DEME announced the contracts, valued between EUR 150 million and EUR 300 million, in a press release on December 10.

DEME will utilize its offshore installation vessel Orion to install 26 monopiles for the wind turbines and one for the offshore substation (OSS).

The inter-array and export cable contracts span from engineering to installation, with the export cable being installed in partnership with Hellenic Cables. Cable installation vessels Living Stone and Viking Neptun will perform these tasks in 2027 and 2028.

For DEME, this marks their second offshore wind project in Poland, after Baltic Power, where they also managed cable scopes.

Ocean Winds has secured around EUR 2 billion in project finance, reaching financial close for the 390 MW BC-Wind project. The European Investment Bank (EIB) supports about one-third of this investment, along with ICO and 13 commercial banks.

Recently, Seaway7, part of the Subsea7 Group, announced a significant contract for the BC-Wind project, covering transport and installation of 26 transition pieces and an offshore substation, starting in 2027.

The BC-Wind farm, located 23 kilometers from the Polish coast, north of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, will feature 26 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 turbines, potentially generating 15 MW each.

Cadeler is set to install the turbines at the site in 2028.

Onshore construction for BC-Wind will begin in 2026, involving the design and construction of the onshore substation and export cable route, undertaken by P&Q. Cables will be designed and installed by Tele-Fonika Kable (TFK) of Bydgoszcz.

This project will be the first in Poland completed using Polish ports, with Świnoujście and Gdańsk serving as marshalling harbors for foundations and turbines, respectively.

BC-Wind is expected to begin delivering power in 2028, with the capacity to supply electricity to nearly half a million Polish households, according to Ocean Winds.
