DeepOcean Charters Glomar Vessel to Expand Offshore Wind and Oil & Gas Capabilities

DeepOcean, an ocean services provider, has signed a time charter agreement with Glomar Offshore. This agreement secures a 2009-built multipurpose support vessel to boost its survey and inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR) capabilities in the offshore wind and oil & gas sectors.

The Glomar Supporter will join DeepOcean’s fleet in January, with operations commencing in the first quarter of 2026 in Europe.

“We already have a substantial fleet of offshore vessels but sought smaller, cost-effective options, especially for offshore renewables. The availability of the Glomar Supporter was a timely opportunity,” stated Øyvind Mikaelsen, CEO of DeepOcean.

The 60-metre vessel, extensively rebuilt in 2021, includes DP2 station-keeping capabilities, a 1,395-tonne carrying capacity, and 497m2 of deck space.

Glomar Supporter is equipped with a main stern A-frame for deploying and towing multiple sensor types like seismic equipment. It also features various survey sensors, multibeam echo sounders (MBE), and a launch area for geotechnical equipment. Its mezzanine deck is suited for a launch and recovery system (LARS) for work-class ROV operations.

DeepOcean plans to deploy one of its work-class remotely operated vehicles (WROVs) on the vessel and may also deploy an observation-class ROV (OROV).

“Survey, inspection, and IMR work are expanding segments. We are excited to offer our clients additional vessel capabilities in this market,” said Robin Mawhinney, Managing Director of DeepOcean UK.
