The Yunlin offshore wind farm in Taiwan is fully operational, powering 600,000 homes and reducing 1.2M tons of CO₂ annually.
Offshore Wind: TotalEnergies and Partners Inaugurate 640 MW Yunlin Wind Farm in Taiwan

The Yunlin offshore wind farm has achieved a significant milestone by becoming fully operational, marking a step forward in Taiwan’s renewable energy ambitions. This development promises to supply clean energy to 600,000 households and reduce carbon emissions by 1.2 million tons annually.

Yunlin Wind Farm: A Collaboration for Clean Energy

The announcement was made during a ceremony in Taipei, where TotalEnergies and its partners celebrated the inauguration of the Yunlin offshore wind farm, boasting a capacity of 640 MW. TotalEnergies will serve as the technical operator, playing a crucial role in the facility’s operational management post the projected Commercial Operations Date (COD) in June 2025.

TotalEnergies holds a 29.46% stake in Yunneng Wind Power Co., Ltd., which spearheaded the project. Other partners include Skyborn Renewables with a 31.98% share, EGCO Group holding 26.56%, and Sojitz at 12%.

Engineering a Sustainable Future

Located 15 kilometers off Taiwan’s west coast, Yunlin is one of the region’s largest offshore wind farms, featuring 80 wind turbines each with an 8 MW capacity. The energy produced is distributed through Taiwan’s grid under two 20-year Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Taiwan Power Company at an average price of $165/MWh.

“We are very pleased to be inaugurating the Yunlin offshore wind farm, as we take a new step forward in our offshore wind development,” said Olivier Jouny, Senior Vice President Renewables at TotalEnergies. This project aligns with TotalEnergies’ 2025 targets for renewable energy, aiming for 35 GW of gross renewable capacity and over 50 TWh of net electricity production.

TotalEnergies’ Commitment to Renewable Growth

TotalEnergies is advancing its renewable energy portfolio across Asia, possessing over 23 GW of gross capacity in solar, wind, and energy storage projects. Approximately half of this capacity is either operational or under construction, signifying a robust commitment to renewable energy growth in the region.

The company is on track to meet its ambitious targets, including a net-zero emissions goal by 2050. TotalEnergies’ offshore wind projects span several countries, including the United Kingdom, South Korea, France, and the United States, complementing its extensive renewable energy initiatives worldwide.
