Used Electric Vehicles See a Remarkable Price Resurgence
After years of decline due to the withdrawal of federal incentives, the used electric vehicle (EV) market is witnessing a notable comeback. Prices for pre-owned EVs are rising, and they are being purchased at a faster rate than their gasoline-powered counterparts.
A recent report by iSeeCars reveals that the average price of used EVs surged by 9.8 percent from September 2025 to September 2026. This increase is nearly double that of hybrids, and significantly higher than the mere 0.3-percent increase observed for gasoline vehicles.
Based on an analysis of over 1.5 million used cars aged between one and five years, here are the statistics:
| Type | Year-Over-Year Price Change | Avg Price Sept. 2026 | Avg Price Sept. 2025 |
| EVs | 9.8% | $32,533 | $29,637 |
| Hybrids | 4.9% | $34,476 | $32,851 |
| Gas Cars | 0.3% | $31,954 | $31,864 |
The current average price of a used EV is $32,533, surpassing the $31,954 average for gasoline vehicles. This is a reversal from September 2025, when used EVs were priced $2,227 less than gas cars. Hybrids continue to command the highest prices, averaging $34,476.
Karl Brauer, Executive Analyst at iSeeCars, suggests that increased fuel prices are enhancing the allure of electric vehicles for consumers. He states:
‘These pricing shifts reflect significantly different year-over-year trends across drivetrains. Ongoing higher fuel prices are likely driving the shift, though the EV segment has also recovered from the demand turbulence caused by the loss of federal incentives a year ago.’

EVs Show Quicker Sales Turnover
In addition to price increases, used EVs are spending less time on dealership lots. In September, they averaged 41.9 days on the market, in contrast to 54.8 days for gasoline vehicles and 48.6 days for hybrids, making them nearly two weeks faster to sell than gas cars.
The top three fastest-selling used EVs, based on their average market duration, were:
- Audi Q4 Sportback E-Tron: 29.8 days
- Toyota bZ4X: 33.3 days
- Lexus RZ 300e: 34.3 days
Conversely, some models are experiencing slower sales. These include:
- Cadillac Escalade IQ: 128.7 days
- GMC Sierra EV: 93.2 days
- Chevrolet Silverado EV: 89.1 days
The Audi Q4 Sportback E-Tron stands out with just 29.8 days required to secure a buyer. Models like the bZ4X and RZ 300e are also surpassing the average selling speed of used EVs. The fastest-moving vehicles tend to be smaller and more affordable, whereas larger and pricier electric trucks and SUVs are slower to sell.
Tesla models are experiencing some of the most substantial price hikes. The Model S, Model X, and Model 3 saw year-over-year price increases of 22.5, 18, and 15.4 percent, respectively. Currently, the Model S commands $57,862, and the Model 3 is priced at $28,931 in the used market.

Recovery in Used EV Market Prices
The beginning of 2026 saw used EV prices dropping year over year, with a notable 3.4-percent decline in March. However, they started to recover in April, marking September as the sixth consecutive month of year-over-year price increases.
While not all electric vehicles are maintaining their value, used EVs are now achieving higher average asking prices than gasoline vehicles and selling more swiftly, signaling a strengthening secondhand market after years of depreciation and volatile demand.
