BMW Reaches Electrifying Milestone with Two Million Fully Electric Vehicles Sold
Munich. The BMW Group has achieved a significant milestone in its electric vehicle journey, handing over two million fully electric vehicles (BEVs) to customers since the launch of the BMW i3 in late 2013. This achievement is part of a broader trend towards electrification, with a total of approximately 3.5 million electrified vehicles, including plug-in hybrids, delivered globally since 2013. In the first half of 2026, electrified vehicles accounted for more than one in every four cars sold by the company.
Jochen Goller, a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands, and Sales, noted, “Selling two million BEVs underlines how BMW and MINI models are winning over customers worldwide. In Europe, the positive development has continued since the market launch of the BMW iX3*, and we will soon be reaching the milestone of 100,000 new orders. This shows the tremendous importance of the Neue Klasse for the ongoing ramp-up of electromobility at the BMW Group.”
In Europe, the availability of the BMW iX3 boosted the company’s BEV sales significantly in the second quarter of 2026, resulting in a 38% growth, with 81,445 units sold. During the first half of 2026, fully electric vehicles made up about 28% of BMW’s total sales in Europe. Since the BMW iX3’s debut, it has become a popular choice, with one in three fully electric BMW vehicles ordered in Europe being an iX3. Within the X3 model range, every second vehicle ordered is now a fully electric iX3.
The milestone two-millionth fully electric vehicle, a BMW i5 M60 xDrive*, was manufactured at BMW’s Plant Dingolfing and was delivered to a customer in Spain. Meanwhile, series production of the new BMW i3 commenced at BMW Group Plant Munich in August, with demand driving rapid production growth. Goller added, “The second Neue Klasse model, the BMW i3, is already seeing strong demand since orders opened ahead of its market launch.”
The BMW Group’s broad portfolio of BEVs and plug-in hybrids positions it well to meet the increasing demand for electric vehicles, continuing its legacy as a pioneer in e-mobility, with foundations laid over 50 years ago.
