TKF to Supply Inter-Array Cables for 1 GW Dutch Offshore Wind Farm

Dutch cable manufacturer TKF has been awarded a contract from Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) to supply inter-array cables for the first phase of the Zeevonk offshore wind project in the Netherlands.

In 2023, Vattenfall and TKF entered a multi-year framework agreement for 66 kV inter-array cables for all Vattenfall’s fixed-bottom European offshore wind farms. This agreement, initiated in the fourth quarter of 2023, spans three years with a potential five-year extension.

The Zeevonk project contract includes the design, engineering, manufacturing, testing, and supply of approximately 162 kilometers of 66 kV inter-array cables, as well as accessories and project management services. TKF will produce these cables at its Eemshaven facility.

The project incorporates low-emission and recycled materials, such as low-emission aluminum, recycled steel, and recycled copper, in a bitumen-free cable design to minimize environmental impact.

Zeevonk is planned to be constructed 63 to 84 kilometers off the Dutch coast near Bergen aan Zee, covering about 650 square kilometers.

The Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners joint venture won rights for the 2 GW Zeevonk site (IJmuiden Ver Beta) in a tender in 2024. Following the tender, the partners announced that the project would feature multiple technologies, as outlined in Dutch tender requirements for the area.

In 2025, the partners revealed the project would proceed in two phases. The first phase aims to deliver 1 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2029, with the second phase adding another 1 GW and 500 MW of system integration capacity by 2032, including a Port of Rotterdam electrolyser for green hydrogen production.

At the end of 2024, Google signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners for 250 MW of energy capacity from the Zeevonk project.
