BYD has made a groundbreaking advancement in electric vehicle (EV) technology, introducing their Flash Charging system capable of reducing charging times to just five minutes. Initially available in luxury models like the Denza Z9 GT, this technology is now expanding to more of BYD’s popular vehicles.
BYD’s Rapid Charging Technology Expands
BYD’s Flash Charging system, paired with their innovative Blade Battery 2.0, debuted in the Yangwang U7, an upscale electric sedan. Following this, the technology was integrated into several new models, including the Denza Z9 GT, which marks the first international release featuring this rapid charging capability.
With the Denza Z9 GT now available for order in Europe at a starting price of €115,000 ($134,500), BYD’s executive vice president Stella Li highlighted the model’s role in showcasing the “principle of ‘Ready in 5, Full in 9, Cold Add 3′” as BYD begins its global rollout of FLASH Charging in Europe.
BYD’s Flash Chargers, boasting a capacity of up to 1,500 kW, can charge vehicles from 10% to 70% in a mere five minutes.
Reaching a near-full charge of 97% takes only nine minutes, and even in extreme cold conditions of -30°C, charging from 20% to 97% is accomplished in 12 minutes.
Among the vehicles set to benefit from this technology is the Yuan Plus, known internationally as the Atto 3, which has been outfitted with the new battery system.

Unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show on April 24, the third-generation Yuan Plus features the new flash charging technology. This electric crossover SUV offers two battery options: a 57.545 kWh pack with a range of 540 km (335 miles) and a 68.547 kWh pack providing 630 km (391 miles), according to CLTC ratings.
The updated Yuan Plus is equipped with BYD’s Blade Batteries and Flash Charging capabilities, and it is slightly larger than its predecessor. Its dimensions are 4,665 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a 2,770 mm wheelbase—still smaller than the Tesla Model Y.
In addition to the upgraded battery, the Yuan Plus features a more powerful rear-mounted electric motor available in either 268 hp (200 kW) or 322 hp (240 kW) configurations.
The interior of the Yuan Plus has also been enhanced with a 15.6″ floating central infotainment system, a built-in refrigerator, and upgraded seating options. Furthermore, BYD’s God’s Eye C smart driving system, which includes a high-speed tire blowout stability system, is standard on all models. Higher-end versions can also be equipped with a roof-mounted LiDAR.

With sales of 223,906 units in 2025, the BYD Yuan Plus (Atto 3) ranked as the 13th-best-selling EV globally, according to CleanTechnica. Despite its popularity, sales in China have recently slowed in the face of new, low-cost domestic competition. BYD is banking on improved charging speeds, extended range, and enhanced safety and convenience features to regain market traction.
Although BYD has not officially announced the launch date, a local dealership source indicates that the new Yuan Plus with Flash Charging is set to debut on May 21, with a starting pre-sale price of approximately 120,000 yuan ($17,700). More details are expected soon.
In addition to the Yuan Plus, BYD is upgrading other models with its advanced battery and charging systems. The Song Ultra EV, featuring Flash Charging, amassed over 60,000 pre-orders within a month of its March launch, as reported here.
