Senator Shaheen Advocates for Clean Energy Amid Rising Costs
In the midst of escalating energy expenses linked to President Trump’s ongoing conflict in Iran, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) is actively pursuing solutions to alleviate these financial burdens. Her “Affordability Action Tour” recently focused on Brayton Energy in Hampton, a leader in sustainable energy research, and New Hampshire Energy Week, where she engaged in discussions on the future of energy in the state. These initiatives are part of a broader effort to address the increasing costs of energy, healthcare, and housing.
During her visit to Brayton Energy, a company dedicated to developing efficient and sustainable energy solutions, Shaheen was briefed on their cutting-edge projects aimed at lowering energy costs and enhancing clean energy access for New Hampshire communities. Despite the Trump Administration’s recent cancellation of a $5 million Department of Energy grant intended for Brayton’s innovative energy storage research, Shaheen is pushing for the reinstatement of this crucial funding.
Senator Shaheen remarked, “As my constituents face spiking fuel and energy prices as a direct result of the President’s reckless war in Iran, now more than ever we must be investing in clean energy solutions that expand our energy supply and lower costs—yet this Administration has done just the opposite.” She praised Brayton’s efforts to advance clean energy technologies and mitigate climate change impacts in New Hampshire.
Later in Derry, Shaheen participated in a fireside chat titled “From Progress to Possibility: The Next Era of Energy in New Hampshire,” moderated by Sam Evans-Brown, Executive Director of Clean Energy NH. The discussion highlighted Shaheen’s significant contributions to energy policy, including her role in passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, which are pivotal in bolstering clean energy and efficiency.
Shaheen emphasized the importance of clean energy deployment, stating, “Continued innovation and deployment of clean energy solutions is essential as communities across our country confront historic energy demand and increasing prices.” She advocated for greater investment in energy efficiency and alternatives to reduce the financial strain on families affected by rising fuel costs.
Throughout her tenure in Congress, Shaheen has been a staunch advocate for initiatives that reduce energy expenses for New Hampshire residents. Her efforts have secured significant funding for programs like the Weatherization Assistance Program, which received an additional $3.5 billion under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, including $18 million allocated for New Hampshire. Additionally, she opposed the Environmental Protection Agency’s attempts to terminate a $43 million grant aimed at supporting solar projects in the state, which would decrease utility bills by 20% or more.
