Project 2025 is a methodical, detailed plan–not just a list of proposals or talking points — written by people who worked in government, for how to systematically take over the government, take away rights and freedoms, and dismantle the government in service of private industry.

Project 2025 is a 920-page blueprint launched by an alliance of right-wing groups led by the Heritage Foundation — which has received millions of dollars from the billionaire polluters in the Koch family. Broadly put, Project 2025 is a methodical, detailed plan–not just a list of proposals or talking points — written by people who worked in government, for how to systematically take over the government, take away rights and freedoms, and dismantle the government in service of private industry.

Why Does LCV Care About Project 2025? 

Project 2025’s goals include dismantling U.S. climate and environmental policy and purging the federal government of scientists and policy experts

Project 2025’s anti-environmental plans for the next willing president include:

  • Eliminating the National Weather Service, privatizing weather information and censoring climate science
  • Massively expanding oil and gas drilling both onshore and offshore
  • Blocking the EPA from enforcing limits on pollution
  • Gutting the EPA by firing staff and blocking its work on climate change
  • Eliminating critical federal clean energy programs, resulting in the loss of hundreds of thousands of jobs

This agenda would have devastating and permanent consequences for clean air, clean water, public lands, and climate change. Environmental protections would be eliminated or weakened to the point of being non-existent, and polluters would be allowed to operate unchecked. 

Meanwhile, the booming clean energy economy would grind to a halt, eliminating hundreds of thousands of clean energy jobs. 

MAGA Republicans in Congress are not waiting until 2025. They are already trying to get a head start implementing this agenda by proposing massive cuts in appropriations bills and attempting to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act–a key piece of project 2025. 

How Does Project 2025 Affect me? 

In addition to the devastating environmental impacts that would result from Project 2025, the agenda also poses a threat to our individual rights and freedoms. This includes such extreme actions as: 

  • A nationwide ban on abortion, restricting access to contraception, and criminalizing medication abortion, the most common form of abortion care in the United States.
  • Making it easier to violate the civil rights of LGBTQ+ people, women, and people of color.
  • Make it easier for employers to keep wages low and deny overtime 
  • Make it hard to form unions 
  • Control what teachers can say and ban books

The authors of Project 2025 and some of the politicians who would implement it are now trying to distance themselves from their own agenda as more and more people learn about it.
