Initiative to Boost Renewable Energy Access and Employment Skills
HYANNIS, Mass., May 29, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — In a significant move to advance renewable energy access and workforce development, Savant Systems, Inc., a key player in smart home and energy solutions, has partnered with GRID Alternatives. This collaboration focuses on equipping underserved areas with the tools and training necessary to harness renewable energy effectively.
Savant is set to donate its Savant Power Storage 20 units to projects in Mexico and Puerto Rico. Alongside the equipment, Savant will provide technical expertise and support GRID’s Installation Basics Training (IBT) courses, aimed at building skills for energy system installations.
The Savant Power Storage systems are designed to reduce energy expenses, redirecting savings to essential needs like food and healthcare. This technology will also help prevent blackouts that threaten the preservation of food and medicine. Beneficiaries include facilities like a physical therapy center for vulnerable populations, a children’s care home, a residential hospice for individuals with HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, disaster rescue organizations, and women-owned businesses operating independently of the grid.
“We’re proud to donate our latest energy storage products, training resources, and time to GRID – an organization that shares our mission to bring clean, renewable power to more living spaces and facilities worldwide,” stated Bob Madonna, CEO of Savant. “For underserved communities with unstable electrical grids, the ability to store and easily access energy means reliable access to essentials many of us take for granted.”
Savant’s Power Storage 20 features a user-friendly app and a scalable inverter with a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery system, offering between 20 kWh and 200 kWh of storage capacity. Its adaptability makes it suitable for various energy needs, ensuring power reliability in areas with inconsistent electricity supply.
The accompanying Savant app facilitates efficient energy management by allowing users to monitor, control, and automate energy consumption. This ensures optimized efficiency and cost savings, particularly during peak pricing and outages. Users can configure their systems to switch to stored power during grid outages or prioritize power storage before storms.
GRID’s training program will provide hands-on experience with Savant’s power management technology, preparing students for careers in solar and battery installation. Savant will contribute Power Storage 20 hardware for practical training sessions and online courses through Savant University, a virtual certification platform for professional installers.
“If we are to grow renewable energy use, we must be able to build a skilled workforce trained to install solar electric systems and batteries,” noted Jenean Smith, Vice President of International Programs at GRID. “Our efforts with partners such as Savant will help develop the next generation of solar and battery installers while providing them career growth, access to emerging technologies, and employment opportunities.”
