Understanding Fisker’s Emergence from Bankruptcy: A Justified Move?

Fisker's financial troubles cast doubt on the Fisker Ocean SUV, despite its impressive performance and unique features, due to uncertain future support.

Fisker’s Financial Struggles: An Impact on the New Fisker Ocean?

Henrik Fisker, the mastermind behind vehicles like the BMW Z8 roadster and the Aston Martin DB9, has faced considerable financial turmoil with his automotive company, Fisker Inc. Following Fisker Automotive’s failure, the company has recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, raising questions about the quality of its electric vehicles. This assessment of the Fisker Ocean seeks to answer these doubts.

The Fisker Ocean: A Mid-sized SUV Standout

The Fisker Ocean, similar in size to the Tesla Model Y and XPENG G6, is a distinctive mid-sized SUV. Its design, reminiscent of the Range Rover Evoque, exudes a muscular vibe.

Fisker Ocean: Options and Unique Features

Three variations of the Fisker Ocean are available in the UK: the Sport, Ultra, and Extreme. Each model offers distinctive features – from different sunroof options to unique customization choices. Rear seat comfort and functionality are also impressive, allowing for easy control of air conditioning in the rear.

Other noteworthy features include a solar roof, an innovative “California mode” enabling maximum natural airflow, and dual phone chargers. The rearview mirror is camera-based, offering a significant improvement due to the limited rear window view.

Fisker Ocean: Lingering Concerns

There are, however, some drawbacks and unfinished aspects to the Ocean. The vehicle lacks a glovebox and power modes changing button is inconspicuously located. The software poses the most significant concerns – some functions are absent or don’t work as intended, including unreliable phone connectivity and unpredictable cruise control.

Compared to the Tesla Model Y and other SUVs, the Ocean falls short in terms of rear luggage capacity. However, its towing capacity is significant, with the Ultra and Extreme models capable of towing up to 1,820kg.

Fisker Ocean: Performance and Range

The Ocean’s performance is impressive, with the Ultra and Extreme models boasting rapid acceleration. The vehicle also offers a substantial range, credited to its large battery. The Ultra model boasts a range of 429 miles, with the Extreme slightly surpassing this at 440 miles. Charging capabilities are also effective, offering efficient top-up times.

Fisker Ocean: Risk or Reward?

Given Fisker’s financial woes, the company has heavily discounted its in-stock cars, making the Ocean an attractive option. However, the company’s uncertain future places a question mark over the vehicle’s worth. While it offers some unique features and competitive performance, the Ocean’s appeal is overshadowed by Fisker’s financial difficulties. Those willing to gamble on Fisker’s viability could find the Ocean an enticing option; those preferring stability may opt for alternatives like the Tesla Model Y.
