Singapore-based shipbuilder Strategic Marine has delivered two Supa Swath vessels to UK operator Mainprize Offshore, marking the start of a multi-vessel program in 2024.
This marks the first milestone in a contract for six vessels, with options for six additional units.
The vessels are part of Mainprize Offshore’s fleet expansion to support offshore renewable operations in Europe. Earlier collaboration in 2024 saw two Supa Swath-design vessels, MO10 and MO11, enter service with Mainprize Offshore.
Developed by Walker Marine Design, the Supa Swath vessels offer high stability and operational efficiency in challenging offshore conditions. They feature improved seakeeping, advanced propulsion systems for better fuel efficiency, and modern navigation and communications technology.
The newbuild program began in June 2024, when Strategic Marine and Mainprize Offshore signed a memorandum of understanding for the vessels. This was formalized in November 2024 with a shipbuilding contract for the initial six units.
Before this contract, Mainprize Offshore announced fleet expansion plans with EUR 25 million in funding from Siemens Financial Services.
In November 2024, Strategic Marine and Mainprize projected the first vessel’s delivery in Q1 2026, expecting to expand Mainprize Offshore’s fleet to 17 vessels by the end of 2026. If all options are exercised, the fleet could reach 21 vessels by 2028.
The Supa Swath program aims to enhance Mainprize Offshore’s capability to support offshore wind operations, including personnel transfer and maintenance support for offshore energy projects in European waters.
