RWE is set to begin construction in Jemgum, Germany’s East Friesland, on a facility for overseeing offshore wind farms in Germany and Europe.

The company has secured a long-term lease and commissioned Real Immobilien to construct the facility on a 4,700-square-meter site in Jemgum. A groundbreaking ceremony took place on January 23, marking the initiation of construction preparations.

Pending approval, construction is slated to begin in the coming weeks and finish by autumn, followed by the installation of office and technical equipment. RWE anticipates the offshore wind control center will be operational by spring 2026.

“In Jemgum, we’re not only building a modern office for RWE employees but also a sustainable flagship project aimed at QNG certification,” said Dieter Baumann, Real Immobilien CEO.

The two-story building will adhere to high sustainability standards, utilizing recycled materials and energy-efficient construction. Plans include renewable energy for electricity and heating, along with water-saving measures. RWE aims for the building to receive the “Quality Seal for Sustainable Buildings” (QNG) from the German Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development, and Building.

“This facility will offer a cutting-edge work environment, and we seek additional qualified employees, especially locally,” stated Derk Niklas Janssen, future RWE on-site operations manager.

RWE announced the new control center as part of its expansion of offshore wind capabilities, including the Nordseecluster project near Juist. This development will eventually power about 1.6 million households. The new Jemgum building will function as the operational hub for RWE’s Nordseecluster wind farms.
