Qcells Achieves Groundbreaking UL Certification for AI in Energy Management
Qcells has set a new precedent by becoming the first firm to achieve UL Certification for an AI component within its Energy Management System (EMS) tailored for data center operations. This achievement marks a significant advancement in autonomous energy management technologies. The certification, granted under UL 3115, an Outline of Investigation for the Safety of AI-Based Products, involved rigorous evaluation by UL Solutions, highlighting the reliability and security of Qcells’ software for data centers aiming to expand their energy systems.
As data centers face increased power variability due to AI computing and complex electrical environments, the adoption of UL 3115 underscores the industry’s growing need for reliable AI technologies. UL 3115 establishes standards for transparency, dependability, and responsible AI operation.

By utilizing an ontology-based model of the facility’s systems, it can accurately forecast demand surges, dynamically manage on-site power systems, and coordinate grid interactions to maintain resilience.
Designed with human oversight in mind, the Qcells EMS enhances operator authority by integrating real-time intelligence and automation. Safety measures are embedded to enforce operational limits, verify actions pre-execution, and provide fail-safe mechanisms to protect critical loads, ultimately improving productivity, reliability, and cost efficiency in modern data centers.
UL Solutions evaluated the Qcells technology against criteria such as decision logic transparency and reliable behavior under various conditions, using scenarios from actual data center environments to test the component’s performance.
