The project aims to open up 180 acres for offshore manufacturing, assembly, and supply chain services.

As a multi-million-pound investment in the River Tees, the Teesport Offshore Gateway will feature a deep-water riverside quay up to one kilometer long, providing direct access to the North Sea, accommodating both floating and fixed-bottom offshore wind projects.

These plans are in the preliminary stages and require a variation of existing development consents. The project could cost around GBP 200 million.

PD Ports intends to consult with the offshore renewables sector, including original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), developers, and the UK government, to explore the proposals’ potential and secure collaboration and funding.

The site has planning and marine consent to extend an existing riverside berth, developing a 15.5-meter deep-water mooring capable of accommodating all current and planned offshore installation vessels.

“As the world shifts to renewable energy, PD Ports aims to contribute by offering a site well-positioned to unlock regional capabilities, supporting trade and delivering clean energy,” stated Frans Calje, CEO of PD Ports.

“These early-stage proposals align with UK Government’s offshore wind power ambitions. We believe this facility will create jobs and drive growth in our coastal communities.”
