The Intersection of Language and Biodiversity

Explorers of the Victorian era, such as Wallace and Darwin, were intrigued by the linguistic diversity in regions like the Amazon and New Guinea. They drew parallels between the evolution of languages and species. Modern scientists, including Larry Gorenflo from Penn State University, have expanded on these ideas to reveal a significant overlap between regions rich in both biodiversity and linguistic diversity.
