Exciting PhD Opportunity at Bahçeşehir University in Sustainable Energy Research

Bahçeşehir University’s FALCON LAB is offering a remarkable opportunity for a fully funded PhD position focusing on groundbreaking research in sustainable energy and automotive applications. This role is part of the MSCA-COFUND CoCirculation3 scheme. It presents a chance to engage with pioneering work at the crossroads of materials science, physics, and engineering.

Dynamic Research Environment Under Expert Guidance

Headed by the renowned Dr. Ozan Akdoğan, an expert in nanotechnology and advanced magnetic materials, FALCON LAB is at the forefront of developing sustainable solutions in the field. Dr. Akdoğan’s illustrious academic journey includes a Ph.D. from the University of Delaware, USA, and postdoctoral research at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). His work on rare-earth-free and recycled permanent magnets, magneto-responsive nanorobots, and micro-swimmers holds significant promise in energy sustainability and biomedical engineering.

FALCON LAB provides a state-of-the-art environment equipped with advanced technologies for thin film, nanoparticle, and bulk material fabrication and characterization. Techniques such as sputtering, E-beam evaporation, and advanced magnetic characterization are employed, with a strong emphasis on the additive manufacturing of functional magnetic materials. Researchers can expect to engage in international collaborations, supported by successful funding from agencies like TÜBİTAK.

Collaborative Project with NANOTerial Technology CO

This PhD project, undertaken in partnership with NANOTerial Technology CO, aims at creating high-performance permanent magnets from recycled materials. This initiative addresses the European magnet supply chain’s sustainability needs and aligns with the EU Green Deal’s priorities of a Clean and Circular Economy. The project supports sustainable transport and energy sectors by minimizing reliance on imported rare earth elements and reducing environmental impacts.

Eligibility and Application Process

Candidates interested in this interdisciplinary PhD should have a background in Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field, with experience in hard magnetic materials preferred. Eligibility extends to researchers with a PhD who haven’t lived in Türkiye for more than 12 months in the past three years. Projects should align with EU Green Deal and climate change adaptation topics.

Applications are due by December 1, 2025, but early submissions are encouraged. Prospective candidates should contact Dr. Ozan Akdoğan (ozan.akdogan@bau.edu.tr) for further information.

Comprehensive Funding Package

The position offers a comprehensive funding package including a monthly salary of €3,980, with additional allowances for family, research, training, networking, and travel. Net salary and other financial details are calculated based on deductions and currency exchanges.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit complete applications including academic transcripts, a CV, a supporting statement, and a draft proposal. Contact details for two referees and an English Language certificate (if applicable) are also required. For more information and to apply, contact nil.girgin@bau.edu.tr or yusef.atteyih@bau.edu.tr.

Bahçeşehir University is committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion, encouraging applications from diverse backgrounds and experiences to strengthen the research community.
