Ford has clarified the dimensions of its forthcoming $30,000 electric pickup truck, confirming it as a midsize vehicle after an error in a recent sales report. The mix-up occurred when the truck was mistakenly labeled as “small” in Ford’s second-quarter sales report, a mistake that has since been corrected by the company.

Originally, Ford’s new electric truck was consistently described as midsize since the announcement of the Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform last year. The platform is set to debut with this battery-powered truck by 2027. However, recent images surfacing online have shown the vehicle positioned next to larger vehicles, leading some to question its size classification.

Spy shots have recently emerged, bringing a new perspective to the vehicle’s size. These photos have led to a reevaluation of the truck’s classification, particularly after Ford’s sales report mistakenly identified it as a “small” truck.

Ford Authority noted the sales report’s language, which described the truck as “small” multiple times, raising eyebrows about Ford’s true intention. The report stated: “The company’s focus on high-margin SUVs—Expedition, Explorer, and Bronco—sustained retail share during the planned phase-out of the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair. This transition paves the way for Ford’s all-new, affordable small electric pickup built on its Universal Electric Vehicle platform.”

Ford CEO Jim Farley hinted at the vehicle’s innovative design, saying it would be “a new silhouette” with more room than a RAV4, excluding the frunk and truck bed. The truck’s precise dimensions remain undisclosed, but it will feature lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries and will be available in rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. Ford emphasizes the affordability of its in-house-developed motors, claiming them to be the most cost-effective globally.
