Ferrari is venturing into uncharted territory with the unveiling of its first electric vehicle, the Ferrari Luce, at a highly confidential location near Rome. This groundbreaking release marks a pivotal moment in the storied history of Ferrari, with the vehicle initially known as the Electrica during development.
The Ferrari Luce is the product of a collaboration between the Ferrari Design Studio and Love From, a design firm spearheaded by Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson. While the interior was previewed in 2026, the complete car has now been unveiled, showcasing a design that embodies the elegance and innovation synonymous with Ferrari.
Defying traditional SUV expectations, the Luce features a four-door, five-seat configuration while maintaining a sports car’s aesthetics. Its wedge-shaped bonnet and robust design make it unmistakably a Ferrari, even as it diverges from conventional car designs.
Engineering Excellence and Speed
Built at Ferrari’s Maranello plant in Italy, the Luce houses an 800V architecture with a 210-cell battery delivering 122kWh. It supports fast DC charging up to 350kW and AC charging up to 22kW, thanks to the Ferrari Power Pack. This electric powerhouse accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 192.6 mph.
Equipped with four electric motors and four-wheel steering, the Luce offers unmatched control and power. The front motors produce 105kW each, while the rear motors deliver 310kW each, resulting in a total power output of 772kW and up to 990Nm of torque. The vehicle control unit ensures optimal performance through torque vectoring, enhancing stability in both curves and straight paths.
An Interior That Melds Digital and Analogue
Inside, the Luce impresses with its blend of milled aluminium and hybrid controls. The 12.9-inch OLED driver’s display merges physical dials with digital elements, creating an analogue feel. A 12-inch central touchscreen offers control over vehicle settings, complemented by a separate display for rear passengers to manage climate and seat functions.
The vehicle’s audio system, the Ferrari Audio Signature, features 21 speakers and 3000W amplification, ensuring a premium listening experience. The steering wheel integrates ‘Manettino’ switches for power and display settings, with paddle controls allowing for regeneration and power adjustments.
Distinctive Design and Street Appeal
The Luce’s design, composed of two distinct structures, sets it apart. The primary shell, crafted from black aluminium and glass, is enhanced by a secondary structure that floats above, forming a large wing at the front and rear. This configuration optimizes aerodynamics while delivering high-performance capabilities.
The Luce’s launch colors include Azzurro la Plata, Giallo Luce, Rosso Dino, Bianco Artico, and Rosso Fiammante. Special aero wheels, inspired by aircraft turbines, reduce drag and cool the brakes, with options for more traditional five-spoke Ferrari wheels.
The Sound of Ferrari’s Future
The Luce’s powertrain sound is amplified like an electric guitar pickup, with a sensor capturing vibrations from the rear axle before processing them for both interior and exterior speakers. In ‘Perfo’ mode, the sound is distinctly engine-like, designed to assist drivers with torque adjustments.
Availability and Pricing
The Ferrari Luce is set to hit the European market in the fourth quarter of 2026, priced at €550,000. The UK launch is anticipated in 2027, with prices starting above £500,000. As part of Ferrari’s ‘Ferrari Forever’ mission, future upgrades will allow for battery module replacements as technology evolves.
