Canadian Company Introduces a Revolutionary Modular Electric Vehicle Platform
Imagine owning a single electric vehicle that can adapt to your evolving needs, eliminating the necessity of buying a new one each time your requirements change. ENVO Drive Systems, a company based in Canada, proposes just that with their latest innovation.
ENVO has launched the Utility Personal Transporter (UPT), a versatile electric vehicle platform that can transform into 18 distinct types of vehicles. This flexibility is further enhanced by a range of optional accessories and upgrades.
Rather than creating separate vehicles for each purpose, ENVO has crafted a universal chassis. This design allows customers to convert it into a variety of configurations, including a low-speed vehicle (LSV), golf cart, cargo hauler, utility ATV, or industrial transport vehicle.
Think of this chassis as a “skateboard” for smaller, customizable electric vehicles.
ENVO offers pre-configured models or the option for consumers to design their unique vehicle from scratch through an online 3D configurator. This tool lets users select from various chassis layouts, drivetrains, battery packs, steering systems, and other components like wheels, seating, and cargo beds.
Much like assembling LEGO bricks or IKEA furniture, the UPT platform is designed to be modular and adaptable.
Ali Kazemkhani, the founder of ENVO, explained the company’s vision: “Most manufacturers sell one vehicle for one job. With UPT, we build one platform that users can tailor into the perfect vehicle for what they need today and adapt for what they may need tomorrow.”
This platform has been in development for four years, addressing a significant challenge in the niche electric vehicle market: low production volumes. By standardizing production and letting customers personalize their vehicles, ENVO aims to provide specialized functionality at a more accessible price.
The UPT’s potential features include modular battery packs, optional four-wheel drive, individual wheel traction control, crawl mode, over-the-air software updates, smartphone integration, and solar charging readiness among others. It also boasts IP67-rated protection and is prepared for future remote or robotic operation.
The price for this adaptable vehicle ranges from approximately US$8,000 to US$12,000, depending on the configuration.
ENVO envisions the UPT platform serving diverse purposes across sectors such as agriculture, resorts, warehouses, airports, municipal fleets, construction sites, campuses, delivery services, recreation, security, and even mobile businesses like coffee carts.
Pre-orders are currently open, with production scheduled for late fall and the first customer deliveries expected in early 2027.
