Ørsted anticipates that its under-construction offshore wind farms will be fully operational by the latter half of 2026, including Borkum Riffgrund 3 in Germany, Greater Changhua 2b and 4 in Taiwan, and Revolution Wind in the US.
The information was released by Ørsted during its first-half 2026 results update.
In Germany, Borkum Riffgrund 3 is over 99% complete and is expected to be fully commissioned in the third quarter. This project, a joint venture with Nuveen Infrastructure, consists of 83 Siemens Gamesa 11 MW turbines, with installation finalized at the start of 2026. The initial power was fed into the German grid in December 2025 after facing delays with the DolWin5 grid connection.
In Taiwan, Greater Changhua 2b and 4 is about 85% complete, aiming for full commissioning in the third quarter. All turbines at Changhua 4 are operational. The export cable for Changhua 2b will be installed soon. The combined capacity of 920 MW features 66 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW turbines, all installed by January 2026. The 42 turbines at Changhua 4 are connected to Taiwan’s grid. The project first produced power in July 2025, with commissioning delayed to the third quarter of 2026 due to damage to an export cable.
In the US, Revolution Wind is over 95% complete, with 61 out of 65 turbines installed. Ørsted expects full commissioning in the year’s second half. Revolution Wind began supplying electricity to New England in March 2026. The project, developed with Skyborn Renewables, comprises 65 Siemens Gamesa 11 MW turbines, serving Connecticut and Rhode Island.
Ørsted also updated on the 924 MW Sunrise Wind, progressing towards turbine commissioning in the second half of 2026, with full operation by late 2027. By June, 20 of its 84 turbines were installed, with foundation work reaching 77 positions. Project completion is at 50%.
Other European projects are on track for later commissioning. In Poland, the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 is 40% complete, with foundation installation in progress. The project, co-developed with PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, aims for commissioning in late 2027.
In the UK, the 2.9 GW Hornsea 3, owned by Ørsted and Apollo-managed funds, is 30% complete and targeted for late 2027 or early 2028 commissioning. Foundation and cable installations are underway, with grid reinforcement continuing.
