CES 2026 Unveiled: A Peek into France’s Innovative Mobility Gadgets

CES 2026 Unveiled, a unique platform blending technology and automotive innovation, took off with intriguing mobility concepts. This year, France emerged as an unexpected hub of creativity, showcasing a variety of gadgets that might redefine transportation. While some of these innovations are still seeking Kickstarter support, their potential impact is hard to ignore.

Breakthrough in Electric Bikes with Solid-State Batteries

Verge’s latest electric bike is turning heads with its impressive specifications. Powered by a hubless in-wheel Donut Lab “Donut motor,” it delivers 737 lb-ft of torque and accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. Yet, the real game-changer is its battery technology. Verge asserts it has developed the first true solid-state traction battery for electric road vehicles. The long-range model boasts a 33.3-kWh battery, offering a 370-mile range and a rapid recharge to 80% in 10 minutes via a Tesla-style NACS plug. A smaller 20.2-kWh version provides 217 miles, both capable of adding 186 miles in 10 minutes of charging.

The battery’s electrode chemistry remains a mystery, except for its non-flammable nature, which confirms its solid-state status. The materials used are globally abundant, hinting at a cobalt- and nickel-free composition. This could mean lithium-metal anodes combined with sulfide or similar solid electrolytes, potentially using iron-, manganese-, or sulfur-based cathodes.

The TS Pro model, initially released with a conventional 20.2-kWh lithium-ion battery, is priced just under $30,000. The solid-state version costs the same, while the larger battery model is listed at $34,900, excluding delivery charges.

Revolutionary Mobility Devices from France

France’s SQ Motors introduces the Sternboard, a three-wheeler electric skateboard. It features a single powered rear wheel and dual steering front wheels, with a max speed of 45 mph. The skateboard is fully waterproof, offering up to 60 miles of range with an 8.0-amp-hour backpack battery. A unique snow-track attachment and front-wheel skis allow winter adaptation. The base price is $2,200, though the snow gear significantly increases the cost. The company has delivered 120 units but seeks Series A funding.

Meanwhile, Normandy-based Skwheels presents electric inline skates with urban and off-road options. The Peak model reaches 16 mph over a 19-mile range, while the Peak S tackles rougher terrains at 36 mph with a 30-mile range. Prices range from 990 to 1,490 euros. Using a remote control for acceleration and braking, users are urged to rely on a friction brake for emergencies.

ÆMotion’s Leaning Quadricycle

ÆMotion draws inspiration from the Toyota i-Road concept with its leaning quadricycle, adding a second rear wheel akin to Yamaha’s Tesseract concept. This vehicle leans up to 35 degrees, offering 42 miles on swappable batteries and up to 120 miles on a fixed battery. Weighing 507 pounds, its top speed is 71 mph. Plans for limited production in late 2026 include a leasing option at approximately $220/month.

Innovative and Eco-Friendly Car Wash Solution

For urban dwellers and those in water-restricted areas, the Hydrin 1 Cordless Car Wash offers an eco-friendly solution. Utilizing just 1/2-gallon of water, this device promises to clean a typical midsize SUV. Weighing 21 pounds, it includes a 5,000-mAh battery, hose, and foam-roller brush. The process involves spraying a foam wash, using a motorized roller, and vacuuming dirty water into a separate tank. Expected to launch in February-March, it aims for a $400 price point, pending Kickstarter success.
