In just a week, BYD’s new Yuan Plus EV, known as the Atto 3 in international markets, has captured the attention of the automotive world with over 30,000 orders. This surge in demand follows the release of the third-generation model, which boasts significant enhancements including an extended driving range and rapid charging capabilities.
BYD’s Swift Success with the New Yuan Plus
Launched on March 21, the third-generation Yuan Plus has a starting price of 119,900 yuan ($17,600), slightly above its predecessor’s price of 115,800 yuan ($17,000). The additional cost is justified by various upgrades, most notably the inclusion of BYD’s latest Blade Battery 2.0 and the Flash Charging technology, unveiled at their Disruptive Tech event.
This electric SUV is available with either a 57.5 kWh or a 68.5 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 540 km (335 miles) and 630 km (391 miles) respectively, under the CLTC standard.
BYD’s innovative Flash Charging system allows the vehicle to charge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes, while a full charge from 10% to 97% takes nine minutes. Even in freezing conditions of -30°C (-22°F), the battery can recharge from 20% to 97% within 12 minutes.

This stylish yet affordable SUV, priced under $20,000, offers a compelling package with its extensive range, fast charging, and advanced technology.
Lu Tian, the general manager of BYD’s Dynasty Series, remarked that the Yuan Plus has been a “bestseller since launch,” with the latest iteration proving immensely popular right from the start.
The vehicle is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor with options of either 268 hp (200 kW) or 321 hp (240 kW). Customers can enhance their driving experience by opting for BYD’s God’s Eye B (DiPilot 300) ADAS system for an additional 12,000 yuan ($1,800). This upgrade includes a roof-mounted LiDAR and 30 advanced cameras and sensors for features like assisted driving and automated parking.

Inside, the Yuan Plus sports a refreshed interior design with a 15.6″ floating infotainment system, complemented by a smaller display. Despite its affordable price, the vehicle offers premium features like a built-in refrigerator, head-up display, AI voice assistant, and reclining seats.

The Yuan Plus (Atto 3) continues to be a strong contender in BYD’s lineup, though it faces stiff competition from models like the Geely Galaxy E5 in the compact SUV segment. However, BYD’s investment in cutting-edge technology, exemplified by the Blade Batteries and Flash Charging, seems to be paying dividends. Other vehicles featuring these innovations have also seen impressive sales, with over 100,000 orders.
BYD is extending its technological advancements beyond China, beginning with the Denza Z9 GT in Europe, the UK, and other global markets, with plans to upgrade the Atto 3 similarly. The previous year, the Atto 3 was the world’s 13th-best-selling EV, with nearly 224,000 units delivered. Time will tell if these new enhancements will elevate its standing even further.
