The Starr County Industrial Foundation (SCIF), alongside Workforce Solutions, is organizing a hiring event for Blattner Energy, set for Wednesday, September 23.

The event is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to noon and will be held at the South Texas College Starr County Campus Student Activity Center Building H, located at 142 North FM 3167 in Rio Grande City.

Job seekers will find various positions available, including:

  • Laborers: starting at $18 an hour
  • Operators: starting at $20 an hour
  • Journeyman electricians: starting at $40 an hour

According to Rose Benavidez, president of SCIF, the event will offer a platform for Starr County locals to learn about the employment opportunities linked to renewable energy projects within the region. Representatives from Blattner Energy will be present to engage with potential applicants, addressing inquiries about job roles, qualifications, and the overall hiring process.

On-the-spot interviews will be conducted, and some candidates may receive job offers during the event.

“Events like this provide an important connection between new investment and the people who call Starr County home,” Benavidez stated. “As new industries and projects come to our community, ensuring that our residents have access to the career opportunities they create is an important part of building a strong and sustainable local economy.”

Local commentator Dario Omar Garza remarked on the event’s significance, stating, “Economic development is not only measured by infrastructure and investment—it is measured by the opportunities created for our people.”

Garza highlighted that the Starr County Job Fair exemplifies the region’s growing momentum. He pointed out that Blattner Energy’s recruitment for positions such as laborers, operators, and journeyman electricians brings employment prospects directly to the community’s workforce.

“As Starr County continues to grow, workforce development, education, infrastructure, and private-sector investment must continue moving together. Events like this help connect our residents with real opportunities while strengthening the foundation for future economic growth,” Garza added.
