Elektrownia Wiatrowa Baltica – 2, responsible for the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm, has awarded contracts for two walk-to-work (W2W) accommodation vessels to assist with construction and operations in the Polish Baltic Sea.
Contracts were secured through a tender by Ørsted on behalf of the project company, with one vessel contracted under each of the two lots.
In April, Pelagic Wind Services won the contract for Lot 1, valued at EUR 24 million. The vessel will begin operations between October 2026 and January 2027, supporting the project until November/December 2027, with options for extension.
The Lot 2 contract, valued at nearly EUR 26 million, was awarded to Bernhard Schulte in July. This vessel will start between December 2026 and February 2027, with operations planned until July 2027, also with extension options.
Public tender award notices published in May and August detailed that Bernhard Schulte’s commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV) Windea Clarke and Pelagic’s CSOV Pelagic Walu are expected to be deployed on Baltica 2 under these contracts.
Bernhard Schulte Offshore (BSO) received Windea Clarke in July, the final CSOV in its newbuild series, designed by Ulstein’s SX222. It features hybrid battery propulsion, a methanol-ready design, and DNV’s SILENT-E class notation for reduced noise.
Pelagic is constructing Pelagic Walu at Cochin Shipyard in India, where it was launched in October 2025. The vessel has hybrid-electric propulsion, methanol-ready engines, and large lithium-ion batteries to cut fuel use and emissions, with a motion-compensated gangway.
At Baltica 2, these vessels will offer offshore accommodation and turbine access during construction and early operations.
The 1.5 GW Baltica 2, jointly developed by Ørsted and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE), aims for commissioning in 2027.
Located about 40 kilometres off Ustka, offshore construction at Baltica 2 commenced earlier this year, with monopile installation underway.
The wind farm will include 107 Siemens Gamesa 14 MW turbines.
