Besides traditional automakers, a wave of start-ups is also making its mark with unique designs and features. Tesla’s Cybertruck, with its polarizing design, is a notable example. Below is an exploration of current and upcoming electric pick-up trucks, showcasing both popular models and lesser-known niche offerings.

Rivian R1T

Rivian, a pioneering American start-up, introduced its first electric truck, the R1T, back in 2018. This model hit the market ahead of competitors like the Ford F-150 Lightning and Tesla Cybertruck. The R1T comes in three variants: Dual-Motor AWD, Performance Dual-Motor AWD, and Quad-Motor AWD. The base model boasts 397kW (545bhp) and 827Nm (610lb ft), achieving a 0–100km/h (0–62mph) in 4.5 seconds. The top-tier Quad-Motor version offers 783kW (1036bhp) and 1624Nm (1198lb ft), sprinting to 100km/h in just 2.5 seconds. Range options vary, with the Standard Pack covering up to 415km (258 miles) and the Max Pack extending to 676km (420 miles).

Maxus T90EV

Revived by Chinese manufacturer SAIC in 2011, Maxus launched one of the earliest electric pick-ups with the T90EV. This model is simpler compared to its competitors. It features a range of 354km (220 miles), 150kW (201bhp), and 376Nm (277lb ft), with a 0–100km/h (0–62mph) time of 10 seconds. Priced around $75,000 in Europe, the T90EV is set to be succeeded by the more advanced Maxus eTERRON9.

The Standard Range version features a 98kWh battery, 337kW (452bhp), and a 370km (230 miles) range. It has a towing capacity of up to 4535kg (10,000lb), though towing reduces the range significantly.

Lordstown Motors, established in 2018, repurposed a former GM factory in Ohio to manufacture its electric pick-up, the Endurance. However, the company filed for bankruptcy in 2023 after producing only 450 units. Its range, however, was limited to 280km (174 miles).

The Cyberbeast version starts at $99,990 with a range of 515km (320 miles), while the dual-motor version costs $79,990 and offers 547km (340 miles). A single-motor option is planned for 2025.
