By merging strategic workplace readiness with practical training, BridgeYear empowers young individuals from underserved communities to step into key positions within the energy and infrastructure sectors. Their Energy Expressway cohort has demonstrated this model’s effectiveness, with 97% of participants completing the program and securing immediate job offers.
Houston, TX, United States, 3rd Oct 2026 — BridgeYear, a prominent nonprofit based in Houston, has announced the successful completion of its first Energy Expressway cohort. From 30 students enrolled, 29 have achieved industry-standard certifications after an intensive two-week training period at CenterPoint Energy’s HO Training Facility. Over half of these graduates have already received conditional employment offers, with more interviews underway.

Developed alongside BridgeYear’s partners, Energy Expressway exemplifies a scalable, employer-focused approach to workforce training. Participants received hands-on experience in four burgeoning fields: Renewable Energy, Gas Operations, Lineman Skills, and Electrical Work.
BridgeYear addressed the gap between technical proficiency and employer demands by offering a comprehensive workplace preparation curriculum. Their advisors guided participants in employer research, resume enhancement aligned with industry standards, and effective communication techniques like the STAR Method.
Participants applied their skills in mock interviews conducted with corporate volunteers from organizations such as CenterPoint Energy, Quanta Services, Inc., and others. These mock sessions prepared them for formal interviews with company talent acquisition teams.
“Students cannot choose careers they have never seen, and employers need talent that can deliver value from day one,” stated Victoria Chen, Co-Founder and Executive Director of BridgeYear. “Energy Expressway shows the power of collaborative workforce solutions. By combining technical training with BridgeYear’s rigorous workplace readiness coaching, we ensure our graduates are fully prepared, confident professionals ready to contribute to Houston-area organizations.”
As regional businesses seek reliable and ready-to-work talent, the Energy Expressway initiative provides a tested blueprint for early-career hiring. Looking forward to the Class of 2026, BridgeYear aims to expand its apprenticeship cohort programming, enhancing access for local employers to a diverse, well-prepared talent pool.
