In a strategic move to expand its presence in Europe, Lucid Motors has partnered with Munsterhuis Autobedrijven as its first retail partner in the Netherlands. This announcement, made on Thursday, comes 71 days after exclusive reports hinted at the potential collaboration. This partnership signifies a significant step for Lucid in enhancing its foothold in the European electric vehicle market.
Munsterhuis Autobedrijven, a family-owned business, will operate a dedicated Lucid sales location in Hengelo, located in the eastern Twente region. This site will also offer authorized aftersales and service, setting a new standard for Lucid’s customer engagement in the region. However, neither Lucid nor Munsterhuis have disclosed specific details about the opening date or the terms of their agreement.
This partnership with Munsterhuis marks Lucid’s second confirmed retail collaboration in Europe, following their agreement with Mercedes-Benz dealer Wackenhut in Germany, which was announced on March 16. This shift in strategy aligns with Lucid’s broader aim to replace its company-owned showroom model with franchised agents and importers across new markets.
Changing Business Strategies
Lucid initially entered the European market in April 2021 with company-owned showrooms across Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Norway, and established its European headquarters in Amsterdam. However, the company is now transitioning to a model involving franchised agents, as noted by then-interim CEO Marc Winterhoff, who mentioned ongoing discussions with over ten potential European dealer agents.
Since that announcement, Lucid has officially confirmed two partnerships, highlighting its commitment to expanding its network through strategic collaborations.
Munsterhuis’ Involvement
Munsterhuis Autobedrijven brings a wealth of experience in low-volume premium retail, representing brands like Ferrari, Maserati, Jaguar, Land Rover, Renault, Dacia, and Alpine. Established in 1962 as a body repair shop, Munsterhuis has grown to employ over 200 people across five locations in the Twente region, offering services including leasing, rental, insurance, and repairs.
The company also became one of only two Dutch dealers for Lotus in 2025, further demonstrating its capability in handling luxury brands with dedicated facilities for sales, service, and repairs.
Expanding Dutch Presence
Lucid has been active in the Netherlands since December 16, 2022, with a retail location in Hilversum, marking its first service, delivery, and sales center in Europe. Hengelo, the new site for Munsterhuis, is approximately 130 kilometers east of Hilversum and lies close to the German border, extending Lucid’s reach beyond the Randstad conurbation, which includes major cities like Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
The European headquarters for Lucid remains in Amsterdam, centralizing its operations in the region.
Addressing Demand Fluctuations
The partnership with Munsterhuis comes as Lucid navigates a challenging market, having sold 32 electric vehicles in the Netherlands during the first seven months of this year. This figure is slightly less than the 33 vehicles sold in the same period in 2025, suggesting volatile demand patterns.
Monthly registration data shows fluctuations, with a notable peak in June, followed by a decline in July. For the entire year of 2025, Lucid registered 53 vehicles, with December seeing the highest sales at 14 units. Of the 32 vehicles sold this year, 24 were Gravity SUVs, and eight were Airs, within a total market of 202,469 passenger cars.
To boost demand, Lucid has adjusted its Dutch Gravity range, lowering the entry price and adding two new trims, now priced from €97,900 to €150,500.
Statements from the Partners
Lucid’s President of Europe, Lawrence Hamilton, emphasized the importance of the Dutch market, stating, “The Netherlands is a key market with a strong appetite for innovative and sustainable mobility. Munsterhuis’ longstanding reputation makes them an ideal partner to introduce more Dutch customers to the Lucid brand.”
Jochen Munsterhuis, a Director at Munsterhuis, praised Lucid’s technology and luxury, noting how well it fits with their existing portfolio of premium brands.
