Italian cabling company Prysmian has acquired a training facility for high-voltage cable jointers in Scotland, adding over 20 apprentice jointers and experienced training staff.
The academy, located in North Ayrshire, will support installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR) operations in the UK and Europe. This initiative aims to ensure the availability of highly trained personnel for underground and subsea high-voltage transmission cable projects, according to Prysmian.
Raul Gil, EVP Transmission at Prysmian, stated, “No company is more British in the cable sector than Prysmian – and now we are a bit more Scottish. The jointers and training academy we have acquired is an excellence on the global stage. Combined with our know-how as a global market leader, this can enhance vital infrastructure upgrades that the UK and Europe depend on.”
Prysmian claims that acquiring the facility will secure future training programs and job opportunities for apprentices who have undergone extensive training at the North Ayrshire facility over the past three years.

He added, “This expertise is vital in Scotland, home to significant UK offshore wind developments and major clean energy projects. It compliments our strong manufacturing, logistical, and commercial footprint in England and Wales as the UK’s leading cable provider.”
The investment supports Prysmian’s existing UK manufacturing and services locations, including facilities in Bishopstoke, Wrexham, Aberdare, and its global marine base in Middlesbrough.
