The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is set to make history with its most extensive season yet. The 2026-27 calendar, recently approved by the FIA World Motor Sport Council, will feature a record 21 races across 13 major cities worldwide, marking a new era for the all-electric racing series.
This season introduces exciting new venues such as The Circuit of The Americas in Austin, USA, and the MASCOT Zandvoort Circuit in the Netherlands. Additionally, the London E-Prix finds a new home at the iconic Brands Hatch in the UK.
Unprecedented Global Expansion
The championship will kick off with a nighttime double-header at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Saudi Arabia on December 18 and 19, 2026. Following this, the series moves to Mexico City for the E-Prix at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on January 16, 2027. Races in Austin and Miami will continue the Americas leg of the tour before concluding in São Paulo, Brazil, on March 13, 2027.
Asia will host the next segment, starting with the Sanya E-Prix in China on April 17, 2027. The European leg then begins with multiple double-header events in Berlin, Monaco, London, Zandvoort, and Madrid, providing a high-octane racing experience.
The season finale will be an Asia Pacific double-header in Shanghai, China, on July 10 and 11, 2027, with the grand finale in Tokyo, Japan, on July 24 and 25, 2027.
GEN4 Era: New Cars, New Thrills
Formula E introduces the GEN4 car, a revolutionary vehicle boasting 600kW of power and active all-wheel drive, designed for enhanced performance and sustainability. The GEN4 car is crafted from 100% recyclable or reusable materials, setting new standards in eco-friendly motorsport.
The upcoming season also debuts a novel race format featuring two types of races per weekend: the traditional E-Prix and the new E-PrixUnleashed. This mix offers fans a thrilling blend of speed and strategic racing.
Industry-Leading Competitors
The grid will see the addition of Opel, joining established manufacturers like Jaguar, Nissan, Citroën, Lola Cars, Mahindra, and Porsche. These teams leverage the racing series to advance electric vehicle technology and performance.
According to Alberto Longo, Co-Founder & Chief Championship Officer, Formula E, “We are incredibly proud to unveil our biggest and most ambitious calendar to date. Expanding to 21 races across 13 iconic cities is a huge milestone, and welcoming world-renowned tracks like COTA in Austin, Zandvoort, and Brands Hatch provides the ultimate stage to showcase our new GEN4 era.”
Sustainability at the Core
The race calendar is designed to minimize environmental impact by grouping events by continent, which reduces travel distances and lowers CO2 emissions. This strategy underscores Formula E’s commitment to sustainability while maintaining competitive racing action.
