Lexus Unveils New Electric and Hybrid ES Models for 2026

Lexus is making significant strides in the electric vehicle market, unveiling the all-electric ES 350e and the all-wheel-drive 500e for the 2026 model year. This move aligns with the brand’s ongoing commitment to expanding its electric and hybrid offerings, as a new hybrid ES is also on the horizon.

According to Lexus, the ES 350e boasts a 307-mile EPA-estimated driving range, providing a substantial option for those looking to transition to electric. The pricing for the ES 350e Premium begins at $50,090, appealing to a wide range of consumers interested in luxury EVs.

Despite a temporary plateau in the US EV market, Lexus is forging ahead with its electrification plans. The 2026 ES models, including the electric variants, are set to debut alongside a refreshed version of the hybrid ES, which has been available for four years. The new models feature updated sheetmetal and interiors, distinguishing them from the existing Lexus RZ EV, which has been on the market for the past four years.

In the upcoming lineup, the front-wheel-drive ES 350e and all-wheel-drive ES 500e will be offered in both Premium and luxury trims. The ES 350e is equipped with a single electric motor powering the front wheels, while the ES 500e features dual motors—one in the front and another in the rear—providing all-wheel drive capabilities. Both models are powered by a shared 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery, which can be recharged using a NACS port.

The upcoming hybrid model, the ES 350h, is slated for release shortly after the electric models. It will incorporate a fuel tank and a hybrid battery located under the rear seat, utilizing Lexus’ sixth-generation gas-electric hybrid system to drive either the front wheels or all four wheels, depending on the configuration.

Design-wise, the latest ES models have undergone a transformation. Influenced by the Lexus LF-ZC concept, the exterior features unique design elements, including distinctive lines and a prominent spindle grille. The new ES model is larger than its predecessor, measuring 6.5 inches longer, with a 3.1-inch increase in wheelbase, a 2.2-inch width increase, and a taller stature by 4.5 inches. This expansion translates to increased interior space and comfort.

The ES models come standard with 19-inch aluminum wheels, with an option for larger 21-inch wheels. Inside, the vehicles boast high-end features typical of Lexus, such as NuLux-trimmed seating, bamboo trim on the center console, and advanced technology like dual wireless phone chargers and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility.

For those eyeing the hybrid variant, the pricing begins at $58,490 for the hybrid 350h Premium+ AWD. The ES series has served as an entry point into the luxury Lexus brand since its debut alongside the LS 400 at the 1989 Detroit auto show. Despite a slight dip in sales last year to just under 40,000 units, the ES remains a cornerstone of Lexus’ lineup. The electric ES, which premiered at the Shanghai auto show a year ago, aims to capture the attention of buyers seeking the refined quietness typical of a Lexus.
