30 MW French Floating Wind Farm Enters Final Phase Ahead of Commissioning Later This Year

All three floating wind turbines for the 30 MW EolMed project have been deployed from Port-La Nouvelle, France, marking the onset of the final phase before commissioning, which is expected later this year.

Following nearly three years of work at Port-La Nouvelle’s industrial quay, the EolMed project has entered its final phase with the start of maritime operations since August.

The launch of floaters started on 3 September and concluded on 15 September. Wind turbine integration on the foundations will start on 25 September.

Offshore installation has begun with the setup of anchors and lines for the floats.

Qair reported that 80% of construction costs were contracted to French companies.

Entrusting 80% of construction costs to French companies underlines our dedication to industrial performance and energy sovereignty. We appreciate the support from the French government through PIA-ADEME and our partners. Eolmed is setting the stage for commercial projects and sustainable jobs on our coasts, and we are focused on completing this stage before commissioning by the year’s end,” said Laurent Vergnet, CEO of EolMed.

French companies Matter and Ponticelli Brothers established MP Archimedes (MPA) in 2021 to focus on the manufacture, assembly, and marketing of floating offshore wind structures.

MPA selected European subcontractors like Brodosplit (Croatia) and Fincantieri (Italy) for the metal structure, Navacel (Spain) for transition pieces, and Petrol Lavori (Italy) for paint finishes for the EolMed floating wind project.

Developed by Qair, TotalEnergies, and BW Ideol, the EolMed project will feature three Vestas V164-10.0 MW wind turbines, mounted on BW Ideol’s Damping Pool floating foundations, to be installed 15 kilometers off Gruissan in waters around 60 meters deep.
