Published on June 18, 2025
Residents, businesses, and nonprofits in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area are being invited to a special event that promises to make solar power more accessible and cost-effective. The upcoming Solarize Charlotte-Mecklenburg initiative is set to kick off on June 25, offering the community a chance to engage in a group-purchasing program for solar energy and battery systems.
The launch event will take place from 6–7:30 p.m. at the Innovation Barn at 932 Seigle Ave. in Charlotte. This meeting aims to educate attendees about the campaign, which leverages bulk buying to reduce costs for participants and increase the adoption of renewable energy solutions.
Attendees at the event can expect to hear from community leaders and coalition members who spearheaded the initiative. Key segments of the event will include:
-
- Introduction of the competitively chosen local installer company.
-
- Expert insights on the benefits of solar energy and how group-buying discounts function.
-
- Guidance on how property owners can sign up for a complimentary property assessment.
-
- Interactive Q&A sessions and light refreshments.
This summer-long initiative, running through October, marks a first for the region and is the result of a collaborative effort between the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, the Town of Davidson, and the Centralina Regional Council.
Objectives of the campaign include:
-
- Affordable Solar Energy: Reducing solar costs through group purchasing, passing savings to Mecklenburg County residents and businesses.
-
- Increased Accessibility: Ensuring access to pre-vetted materials and competitive pricing through a thorough selection process.
-
- Community Engagement: Expanding knowledge through outreach efforts like workshops and solar open houses.
-
- Policy Promotion: Supporting clean-energy goals, greenhouse gas reductions, and local workforce development.
“Solarize Charlotte-Mecklenburg is a program that the City of Charlotte is excited to be involved in,” stated Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles. “Removing barriers to entry for our community to practice sustainability is paramount, and this group-purchasing program makes solar energy more affordable and attainable.”
Installer Firm Selected through Vigorous Vetting Process
A qualified installer has been selected to provide top-tier materials at reduced prices through volume purchasing. Details of the chosen firm will be revealed during the launch event.
Following the launch, the campaign will continue to engage the community through educational events and appearances aimed at increasing understanding of solar technology and available incentives.
Advance registration is already open for interested property owners at the program website, allowing them to be among the first to receive a free evaluation. Enrollment remains open until October 31, with deadlines for residential and commercial contracts set for the end of 2025 and early 2026 respectively.
Local organizations are encouraged to participate in promoting the campaign within their networks. For more details on getting involved, contact admin@solarizecharmeck.com.
