ScottishPower Renewables, a division of Iberdrola, has awarded a contract to HSM Offshore Energy for the offshore substation and jacket foundation of the East Anglia Two offshore wind farm in the UK.

HSM Offshore Energy is set to provide a 5,100-tonne high-voltage substation and a 3,700-tonne jacket foundation for the 960 MW wind farm off Suffolk’s coast.

Preliminary engineering work began in summer 2024 under an early work agreement.

Construction is scheduled to commence in late 2025, with the jacket ready by the third quarter of 2027 and the topside by the end of 2027.

“ScottishPower Renewables’ early reservation of yard capacity underscores collaboration and foresight in advancing the energy transition. We are proud to contribute to the East Anglia Two project and support the UK’s renewable energy goals,” stated Hans Leerdam, CCO at HSM Offshore Energy.

Situated in the North Sea’s southern region, the East Anglia Two offshore wind farm secured selection in the UK government’s latest Contract for Difference Allocation Round 6.

The 960 MW project will include 64 Siemens Gamesa SG 14-236 DD wind turbines on monopiles provided by Sif. Installation of turbines and foundations will be handled by Cadeler.

“Collaborating with HSM Offshore Energy to realize our £4 billion East Anglia Two wind farm is exciting. It will enhance UK green energy production,” said Ross Ovens, Managing Director for Offshore at ScottishPower Renewables.

“This contract highlights our forward-thinking strategy in securing supply chain partners early, allowing for a swift construction start this year.”
