Saipem and Divento Collaborate on Floating Offshore Wind Projects
Italy’s Saipem and Divento have entered into a collaboration agreement to implement Saipem’s proprietary STAR 1 technology for floating offshore wind, targeting the 7 Seas Med and Ichnusa Wind Power projects. The agreement aims to support these projects in participating in the initial auction under the Fer2 Decree.
STAR 1 is designed for creating semi-submersible floating wind foundations. This partnership unites Saipem and Divento’s strengths and strategic approaches for executing all project phases effectively.

Divento, formed in 2022, comprises partnerships with GreenIT, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), and the co-founders of 7Seas Windpower and NiceTechnology. According to Paolo Bellucci, CEO of GreenIT, this collaboration can drive the growth of a new industrial sector in Italy.
The 7 Seas Med project, located over 35 kilometers from Sicily’s coast, has received environmental impact assessment approval from the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security. This 252 MW floating wind farm is the first of its kind in Italy.
Ichnusa Wind Power plans to develop a 504 MW project about 40 kilometers from the southwestern coast of Sardinia, producing renewable energy for 600,000 homes. The project will feature 42 floating wind turbines, each with a capacity of 12 MW.
Both projects are in development, pending the definition of the regulatory framework for Italian renewable technologies auctions. Kunal Patel, Partner at CIP, emphasizes the importance of clarity in the CfD system for floating offshore wind to realize its potential.
