El Patrimonio Solar Project Breaks Ground in Bexar County
Renewable energy took another step forward in San Antonio as Ashtrom Renewable Energy commenced construction of the El Patrimonio solar facility. Key partners, including CPS Energy and SOLV Energy, alongside local officials, gathered to mark the beginning of this significant project.
Initiated in 2025, the El Patrimonio Project aims for completion by 2027. Upon its operational launch, the facility is expected to provide electricity for roughly 37,000 households and will contribute to a substantial annual reduction of carbon emissions by approximately 193 tons.
Yitsik Mermelstein, CEO of Ashtrom Renewable Energy, expressed enthusiasm, stating, “This is an exciting day for Ashtrom Renewable Energy and a major milestone in our continued commitment to delivering sustainable, reliable energy solutions. We want to thank our partners, including CPS Energy, SOLV Energy, Bexar County, and the City of San Antonio for their collaboration, vision and support bringing this project to life.”
Frank Almaraz, Chief Operating Officer of CPS Energy, emphasized the utility’s leadership in solar energy. “CPS Energy is the number one buyer of solar energy in Texas. Today’s groundbreaking and partnership with Ashtrom helps maintain our leadership position. Renewable energy is also a key part of delivering on our diverse generation plan to meet our growing population’s needs,” he stated.
George Hershman, CEO of SOLV Energy, highlighted the collaboration with Ashtrom, noting, “Breaking ground on El Patrimonio marks the start of an important partnership between SOLV Energy and Ashtrom Renewable Energy. From construction through operations, SOLV is committed to delivering this project safely, efficiently, and with a focus on long-term performance – supporting Ashtrom’s vision and Texas’ growing energy needs.”
Under a long-term agreement, CPS Energy, San Antonio’s municipally-owned utility, is set to purchase around 70% of the electricity produced by the El Patrimonio facility, alongside renewable energy credits. The remaining electricity will enter Texas’ open electricity market, made available by Ashtrom.
